Description: A secluded cove on the islands of Bermuda is reportedly where one Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard, spent some time hiding out from the Governor Eden of North Carolina around 1718. His ship the Queen Anne’s Revenge may have even anchored off Achilles’ Bay; the crew may have basked on the beach and fished and swam in crystal clear turquoise water. They may also have created a small hut on the shore to shelter from the sun but what stands there today has transformed into the Beach House at Blackbeard's. It serves some of the best food on the island with wine to match in a shabby chic restaurant with a good bar and a special view of the sunset.

“Outstanding food and drinks”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2012

We go here at least 3-4 times in a week whenever we visit the island. Best location for sunset. Excellent food and drinks- doesn't look like much from the outside. Don't let that stop you.

“New name is "The Beach House", fabulous view & food at moderate prices!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2012

Earlier in 2012 this place re-started under new management, thus if you disregard the couple of adverse ratings from 2011 and before the current ratings would easily make it the best restaurant in St Georges!

The lunch menu was absolutely delicious, moderately priced ($15-20) and with spectacular views overlooking Achilles Beach. The wait staff is most efficient and friendly (worth an extra tip.) While you are there see if you can strike up a conversation with Piero, the new owner who has retired from his restaurants in Boston and New York; we found a fascinating story when we asked him how he opted to retire in Bermuda.

The Beach House rounds out a great day in the area. First we visited the adjacent St Catherine's Fort & Museum and checked out the three beaches nearby (Tobacco, Achilles & Gates Beach), which are all different and most enjoyable, We were visiting Bermuda on a cruise ship, so whether docked in Hamilton or King's Wharf the same ferry takes you on a pleasant ride to St Georges. Tthere are plenty of taxis, but we opted for the 25 min walk to the fort. Enjoy!

“Great place to watch the sunset”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 10, 2012

I live on Bermuda and have recently visited Blackbeards twice in quick succession.

The visit was very good. Lovely food and a great table overlooking a spectacular sunset. Kids meals were large and good value and the adult meals were very tasty. My one criticism would be the volume of the music - too loud.

The second visit was one week later and while good, did not live up to the first. We had trouble parking the car as the small car park was full. We moved the car to the larger bike parking area, where there was plently of space but we were told by a taxi driver from the St. Georges Club to park it at the bottom of the road, so he could get into the bike parking area, rather than stop just outside it. Needless to say we didn't comply. When we entered the restaurant, the owner/manager? told us that where we had parked the car was for bikes only. We responded by pointing out that there was only two bikes there and the taxi drivers regularly park there, and asked him where he would rather us park, given that the tiny car park was full. He shrugged his shoulders! We left the car where it was.

The adult food was just as tasty. My daughter ordered the same meal as the week before (chicken tenders), but once it arrived it was different. The week before she had received 5 pieces of lovely chicken, whereas this time she received 10 chicken nuggets. she enjoyed them, but you could see the quality had dropped as they looked like frozen food heated up in the oven.

Overall I like the place. Great for a summers evening and reasonable value, but like so many other places in Bermuda, they have to understand the requirement for consistency and customer service and these aspects must improve.

“New management at Blackbeards has been a breath of fresh air!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2012

We live in Bermuda and occasionally would visit Blackbeards when it was under the previous management. Unfortunately we stopped eating there when it was no longer a relaxing enjoyable experience. The music became too loud and one had to almost shout to be heard, service was slow and very sloppy and the food became very mediocre.

Enter the new management! What a difference! We have now eaten there several times (lunch and dinner) and will be going again today for lunch. The new decor is fabulous, the service is friendly and efficient plus the food is spectacular! The burgers are extrememly good, cooked to order and to your liking, whatever fish is available that day is cooked to perfection and the other menu items are equally delicious.

The setting, of course, has always been stunning and is now matched by the great restaurant experience.

“Cocktails”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2012

My husband and I live in St. George's and during summer months we often frequent Blackbeards. We visited Blackbeards two weeks ago and since it has been remodeled we decided to have a few cocktails and appetizers. The food and cocktails were good and the service was execellent, we recommend Blackbeards because it's outside dinning and the atmosphere is so relaxing.
