“I really wanted to give it 5 stars”
Reviewed June 21, 2011

My husband and I just returned from a 4 night stay for our 25th anniversary. Cambridge Beaches was highly recommended by our travel agent of 24 years, as well as this website. We wanted an exclusive resort which it was. The location was both a pro and a con. It was situated almost at Dockyard on a beautiful peninsula so that you got a west, east and north view...views were spectacular. Obviously, the down side of being "out-of-the-way" is that we spent at least $25-$50 on a one way cab ride to go to the fantastic restaurants we picked out. Everyone, especially the restaurant staff, was very friendly at Cambridge Beaches. OK so now for why couldn't I give it 5 stars....4 roaches in 4 days..one of which was in my dresser drawer. They sent someone within 5-10 minutes from our 10pm call to spray, but it still never cured me from seeing even 1. Cab driver told us this wasn't the first time he heard this about Cambridge Beaches. My guess is that the quality has slipped a bit. Other than this, we really enjoyed our stay!!! Would we stay again? No...we'd try another exclusive resort closer to the restaurants.

Room Tip: Our room was Bay West so I would not stay there!

First, I am sorry to read about your experience. We pride ourselves on delivering exceptional service and exclusive surroundings for all our guests—especially those that are celebrating a romantic anniversary milestone like yours. Although we and all luxury properties go to extraordinary lengths to keep bugs and insects away from our guest rooms and suites, any resort like ours that is surrounded by beautiful aspects of nature (lush trees, plants and the ocean) may find itself visited by these. Of course, it’s always our goal to ensure these “visits” never occur, but the reality here in Bermuda is that insects sometimes find their way into open doors and windows. This is particularly true if screens are left open in the evening with lights on. Also, it’s important to note that the cockroaches of Bermuda are not of the same type as found in the USA. These are not the pests attracted by dirt, but rather are free -flying insects. Luckily in Bermuda, we have virtually no mosquitoes or stinging insects but, every now and then, an insect will find its way in to rooms—we are, after all, a sub-tropical island!

As for our resort’s location, you know that Cambridge Beaches is housed on Bermuda’s western coast, on a 30-acre peninsula that offers its guests a tranquil sanctuary as well as the spectacular views you mentioned. We believe our private and secluded location at the end of this beautiful island is a major reason that guests choose us—and why they frequently return for subsequent visits. We do provide a shuttle from Cambridge Beaches to the ferry service—and that means it’s only a 20-minute ride to Hamilton. We are the closest resort to Bermuda’s most-visited attraction, the Royal Navy Dockyard, with all its shopping, craft centre, restaurants, the Bermuda Museum, and up-close-and-personal encounters with dolphins. We at Cambridge Beaches would love the opportunity to welcome you and your husband here again.

Best,
Michael J. Winfield JP, Cambridge Beaches Resort & Spa, president and CEO

We went for a special Birthday celebration & there were 2 couples in our party.
We had been recommended to go to this hotel by people who had been there 8 years ago. I can only say that the years had not been kind to the hotel!
It all looked run down & in need of fresh paint & cosmetic repair. The only area which was super was the outdoor pool area. They did start painting a number of areas whilst we were there but May is the start of the busy season so would it have been an idea to get any refurbishments done before the busy time?
Checking in was slow & very laid back & we did not get the adjoining cottages as requested in writing at the time of booking! We asked & then got adjoining places.
breakfast time was a bit hit & miss & you could end up with a wait for a table. The food was very good & a redeeming feature of the resort.
At the very nice outoor pool,it was normal to find not towels available & no staff to assist withthat problem.I had to go to reception on 3 occasions to obtain towels!
The location of the resort was in a pretty area ok for sightseeing.

First, we at Cambridge Beaches are glad that you and your friends chose our resort for your birthday celebration. While we pride ourselves on creating exceptional experiences for each guest who visits us, we try to be especially welcoming to those who celebrate milestones at our resort.

A 30-acre property such as ours—which as you know is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean—requires regular upkeep in order to maintain our very high standards. In order to do that, we occasionally must conduct routine maintenance, which can include spot painting and touch-ups, done during times when guests are on the property. We try to keep these to a minimum so as not to disrupt the tranquil sanctuary setting we offer at Cambridge Beaches.

I am glad to hear that you found the cuisine at our resort to your liking! And while I am disappointed to hear that the check-in process took longer than you would have liked, I am heartened to hear that our staff was able to immediately accommodate your request for adjoining cottages. And because our outdoor pools are immensely popular with our guests, it’s also is our goal to ensure that sufficient towels are made available at all times. We hope we’ll get the opportunity to enjoy the pleasure of your company at Cambridge Beaches again soon—and we promise all the towels you’d like!

We spent three nights at Cambridge Beaches and it was very nice. We have stayed at several other resorts and the service at Cambridge is very comparable. When we checked in we were offered Ginger Beer or a Dark and Stormy, along with cooled lavender scented wet towels to refresh. We checked in after 9:00 pm and they had a plate of finger sandwiches, cheeses, crackers, fruit and cookies waiting in our room. Very nice touch and much appreciated.

Our room was very spacious and the decor was what you would expect at a resort but with a Bermuda flair. The view from our balcony was breathtaking. They have a private beach and a private boat dock. My husband scheduled a fishing trip with a guide and it was nice and easy having the boat dock available. He caught a hogfish and the chef at Tamarisk was more than happy to make the plans to cook the fish. The chef even came out to the boat to get the fish. We decided to eat at Breezes so the chef there actually prepared it.....perfectly. It was melt in your mouth perfection. He did a wonderful job and was never bothered that he had to do something unscheduled. In fact, he seemed eager and happy to have the chance to specially prepare the fish. We ate at a table on the beach and it just does not get more romantic. Definitely a meal we will remember forever.

All of the staff are very professional and will go above and beyond to assist you. Denise at the front desk is very pleasant and helpful. Cassandra did an amazing job cleaning our room and was very pleasant and professional.

I had a mani/pedi at the spa and the girl who did it (sorry did not get her name) did a great job and was very professional and pleasant. The spa is small but it is decorated in a relaxing manner and very quaint.

There are many places at Cambridge to just sit and enjoy the view and the calmness. We will definitely return....hopefully soon.

Our family just returned from Bermuda two days ago. We stayed for a wonderful week at Cambridge Beach Resort, and were treated like royalty. Our suite was full of real wood furniture and lovely furnishings. We had a suite overlooking the ocean with a patio and little grassy area. The meal plan was well worth the money. The food was great, especially the breakfast, which I am really missing. Dinners were awesome. We ate at two off property restaurants with the dine around plan and they were good as well. The staff at Cambridge couldn't be nice or more helpful. The grounds were gorgeous, the pool area as well. Beaches were clean with plenty of towels and chairs. We would return in a heartbeat.

The cottages are very well fitted out, the service clenliness and ameneties are excellent.
The restaurants are very good value for an expensive island and the staff there are brilliant.

My husband and I just returned from our 7th visit in 7 years. Cambridge beaches just keeps getting better. I have to say that the food at both Tamarisk and Breezes was excellent. I don't know if they got a new chef but it was the best we have ever had. The fillet steak with Bremuda Rum carmelized onions was my favorite. at Breezes. The grounds and flowers were breathtaking against the bluegreen water. When you step out of the taxi you just feel all the stress of the outside world slip away. It is the perfect place to spend quality time with your spouse . After dinner strolling back to you room listening to the tree frogs is about as romantic as it gets. There were honeymoon couple and couples in there 80's and everyone seemed to be having a wonderful time. If you get a chance rent a boat, have the hotel pack you a picnic lunch and find an island for the afternoon. We will be back next year.

Not a four-star resort. Mediocre service. Out-dated furniture. Poor value. Would not return.
