“Great hotel, excellent value...better than expected.”
Reviewed February 20, 2014

About 15 years ago I lived in Bermuda and am familiar with the island and its quality of accommodation. I was very pleasantly surprised with the Grotto Bay. The room was clean and spacious and we had a lovely view of the bay. The bathroom was nicely renovated, although they still had the old "hose" type hairdryer LOL. I never once heard noise from the airplanes even though the airport is quite close. The food in the restaurant was very good, although I was surprised a reservation was required at the restaurant for dinner in low season. The pool was heated and some complained it was too warm, but I thought it was lovely. Employees were helpful. The hotel was in close proximity to St. George's. We took cabs since my friend had broken her ankle a few weeks before going. There's an Oleander Scooter rental right next door to the hotel and I rented a scooter for the day - although if you're not familiar with riding a scooter, you have to be very careful as its easy to crash and you drive on the left. I hadn't ridden one for many years, but had no problem. The bus is a great option and much cheaper. Overall it was a great experience and I would definitely stay here again.

We stayed at this hotel for 8 nights first week in Feb. We had ideal weather for the off season. The hotel is very close to the airport which is not posible to walk to. It's a ten dollar cab ride. The pool attendant (Richard) was very helpful and the water was heated. It was a nice touch. The rooms are very spacious with lots of dresser space. We had asked for a third floor room with a king size bed and got it. It came with a very nice view of the water. Most of all the sites we had visited from St. George to the Navy Dockyards had very little tourists. The only problem we encountered for the week was the bus drivers had a wild cat strike for two days. We had purchased a monthly pass. Oh well! But we would not hesitate to visit here again!

Room Tip: All rooms are very nice

We just came back from Bermuda where we stayed in Grotto Bay resort.
We liked everything there: the view from our balcony, small beach, pool, hot tub, food, convinient location. We definately will stay there again.

Room Tip: Sandy lodge is fine. It has great view from th balcony.

For the price I got $95 a night you can't go wrong. I found the room quite big and clean, nice size fridge in the room which was nice. The front desk staff are very friendly and helpful but I did find they didn't promote deals too well, such as each day I was buying tokens at $4 each for the bus, it was the bus driver that gave me the heads up on buying a day pass as he had seen me on several bus rides. When I got back to hotel I asked about a day pass and of course they did sell them!! Well worth it too, $15 a day gets you on any bus or ferry all day long. If you go to the caves (Crystal & Fantasy) it costs $22 to see one cave or $30 to see both, my advise is save ya self $8 and see just one because they're exactly the same. Sunday is a quiet day in Bermuda, if ya looking for something to do head to Dockyard, restaurants and attractions are open. Grotto Bay has a great heated swimming pool and a beach which are very clean, check out Cathedral Cave too and take the plunge if you dare! The restaurants here are expensive, I ended up going to the supermarket and made use of the fridge. One thing I didn't like was if you do venture out to eat, they'll tack on a 17% gratuity charge whether you like it or not, the reason I mention this is I dined at a restaurant in Dockyard and had the worst service you could imagine, upon paying my bill my credit card was automatically charged with gratuity. Grotto Bay is a little out of the way but don't be steered away, the bus stop is right at the gate. Overall great place to stay and the staff are very nice and helpful. Hope this helps and enjoy Bermuda, it's a beautiful place.

It was excellent. We didn't expect much since the price was so low. But we were amazed at the place. In February the only restaurant within walking distance (Swizzle Inn) shuts down. So plan your meals carefully. A few people said they were disappointed in the morning because there was nothing but a high priced buffet. But that is not true. The breakfast is ala carte at the bar. It is open from 6:30am onward and has bagels, muffins, danish, coffee, OJ and more. For some reason they don't emphasize it enough when you check in. The bagels and muffins should be offered in the lobby, not hidden by the bar. Here's something else, Cathedral Cave, which is on the property has a sign which says Open 9-5. But it was left open all night fully lit. This is very convenient for an evening swim. But bring a partner, just in case. The food is great. Here's a secret. Make reservations. There are only two restaurants, the Palm (reasonably priced), and Hibiscus (high end). The Palm fills up quickly. Here's another secret. If all the reservations are full, ask to have the meal in the lobby. It is really quite comfortable in the lobby. There are four large dining tables which are perfect. Also, a meal by the fireplace is really special. Here's another tip. Buy the 1 or 3 day bus pass, not the individual round trips. You will be on the bus often and the pass covers the ferry as well. Another tip: Go to the Dockyard on Sunday. Sunday is dead in Bermuda. Everything is closed... except the Dockyard. There the museums are open, and the shops and restaurants are all open. Be careful. The bus and ferry run infrequently on Sunday. Get a copy of both schedules from the concierge near the front desk.

It is an amazing resort. I highly recommend it. The management is professional and courteous. The rooms all face the water and have a balcony. I talked to many guests and they all agreed that Grotto Bay was perhaps the best hotel on the island. If we return to Bermuda, this is the hotel we will return to.

Room Tip: Stay away from room 469. It was infested with ants during a rainstorm. There are no elevators. So av...

First time I have ever stayed in BDA. Great little resort, very clean and tidy. Rooms appeared to be recently done over. Nice pool and beach area, Richard manages the beach area and a great person to chat with or ask questions.
The food was well above average, just remember that it's and Island and everything is shipped in. The bar was cozy and comfortable and the service was great.
They have golf carts and small vans to take you to your room, use them, it's a hike either up or down depending where you are located.
The hotel is located on a bus line that's easy to navigate downtown or out to ST Georges. The only off site restaurant within walking distance is the Swizzle.

Room Tip: Down by the beach or water views are the best.

Recently returned from Grotto Bay Resort on the all inclusive package and found everything perfect, from the food in the restaurant, the helpful and friendly staff and the location. No where on the island is far on the regular and timely buses and even though out of season a number of shops, attractions are closed there is still plenty to keep to keep you occupied. Cannot fault the staff at the resort, everyone was so helpful. Rooms were clean and roomy. Cannot wait for a return visit.
