My husband and I stayed in Aranjuez for 8 nights in early September. We were camping and on a budget so I mostly cooked for ourselves at the campsite.
On our last afternoon we decided to treat oursleves to lunch at El Rana Verde. The location is stunning! The interior beautiful and very clean. We had been "touted" a few times as we'd walked past before and declined. We wish we hadn't bothered this time!
We both speak Spanish and aske for a table for two. The waiter just frowned and motioned us to take a table where ever we wanted. We chose a table on the very narrow riverside terrace where most of the other diners were. It really is the loveliest spot.
It took and age to get menus and we weren't asked if we wanted drinks or water, just ignored. We counted 6 waiters plus several staff behind the bar and perhaps 4 tables of diners. Hardly overstreched!
We chose the 15 euro menu del dia wich was to include 3 courses, a drink and bread. We pushed the boat out and ordered a bottle of wine that we knew would be paid for on top of our inclusive meal.
ALL the food was practically inedible! Artichoke soup had woody bits in it, a roasted vegetable mousse so rich all you could taste was cream. Then two grilled fish so badly dried out that we could't eat any of it. When the waiter took the plates away, he didn't even ask if there was anything wrong. We chose a rice pudding and a chocolate mousse for desert (how could that go wrong?) and once again they were completely inedible! The rice pudding was so sweet it practically gave me toothache and the texture of the mousse was vile and again, so sweet it was horrible!
We opted for coffee and watched as other diners were brought complimentary liquers with theirs. We were offered nothing.
When the bill came, the coffee was added on top of the bill even though we hadn't had a "drink" with our set meal.
Along with the dreadfully rude service the experience was just awful! The only reasson we didn't complain was the fact that we'd drunk a bottle of wine at lunchtime sitting and looking at the most beautiful view after having had a fabulous holiday!
If you have the opportunity, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!

We went to Aranjuez for a day trip and it happened to be father's day! All the restaurants were packed and we were really desperate. So we decided to go to the one with the most people and wait for our turn.
The employees were really working in fast motion, and after a while we were seated. We ordered jamon and cheeses for starters, that were of excellent quality and we all got steaks for a main dish. The quality of the meat was great and they were cooked exactly as we had asked.
Deserts, ice cream, fried milk balls with ice cream and chocolate mousse. All great and we were served amazingly fast and well for such a busy day. Would go back anytime!

This was the worst restaurant during our trip in Spain. Maybe even the worst restaurant I have ever been to. We should haven known from the fact that it was completely empty when we entered.
The food is really bad: We had cheese as a starter which was 6 slices of old cheese which would cost 50 cents in the supermarket, grilled vegetables and meat which looked as if someone els hat eaten it before. We had water no wine and the bill was about 60 Euro, including some euros for the bread, which must have been from the day before.
If you want to ruin your day come here, if not stay away.
