“Parador Alcala de Henares: Avant guard d' Architecture topped with great food”
Reviewed February 17, 2012

Alcala de Henares is 20 minutes from Barajas airport of Madrid and for a business trip in the major area of the Spanish capital stands as a good option to spend the night without too much driving in and and out of the glorious but constipating city! Classical and low height buildings with some really old but well preserved structures around tthe center of this spacious satellite city.
Parador hotel is a masterpiece of modern "linear" Architecture which combines glass and metal in such a smooth osmosis with the historical environment!
The style of all openings (windows) is of course defensive from the point of view of energy savings and thermal comfort but without additional cost of natural light inside the building.
The rooms are large and the double bed is one of the largest ever slept on (alone).
The bath room looks much larger than it is due to the largest mirror I ever saw in hotels above the twin wash hand basins! What a perfect optical trick!
When you then try the restaurant quality, wonder why you have to leave after 2 nights and return to your office some thousands of kilometers away...

Room Tip: all rooms are pretty good. just turn off the heating as this is the soft problem of Parador. As in...

I stayed here with my wife for two night in February 2012. It is a very modern hotel and you could be forgiven for not noticing the original ancient building. Despite being in the centre of town the rooms are positioned to be quiet. The rooms are spacious and hi-tech. The breakfasts are excellent. What makes this place really are the staff who were extremely thoughtful and helpful.
It is very expensive - but I was not paying!
The free wifi was efficient and welcomed.
My only complaint was the temperature of the room. It was -6C outside and waaaaay to hot in the bedroom we had to turn off the heating open the window to get it to cool down.

I cannot say enough good things about this Parador. I wish my stay was longer than one night. The Parador does everything right. From customer service, room appointment, food and more, this is by far, one of the nicest places I have ever stayed. The breakfast buffet was the best of all the Paradors we visited. The room technology was easy to understand. The room and bathroom was of contemporary design and function. A final note...I needed some bubble wrap to protect olive oil and wine bottles. The manager got right on it and found a large industrial roll used for their convention clients. He went out of his way and my glass bottles arrived in tact. I highly recommend this Parador.

Room Tip: Any room will be pleasurable

My wife and I spend a night here in November 2011. We arrived in the evening after a day of driving from Galicia and were immediately impressed. The place is ultra modern with a really cool vibe to it. Everything from the elevators to the RFID room keys was the latest in high tech. In the room, lights can be adjusted for different moods by the push of a button. The bed was an actual king bed, not the two twins pushed together like in most European hotels, and was the most comfortable we had in Spain. The bathroom had twin sinks and an incredible shower with separate tub. There was a big flat screen TV with satellite and a few dozen channels. We were wishing we had a lot more time to spend here but unfortunately had to leave the next day. Fortunately the airport is only 10 miles away!

We also ate dinner in the hotel restaurant and highly recommend it as well. All in all a top notch experience.

I can only reiterate the most positive comments seen on other reviews. Absolutely fantastic.Last night in a tour of 5 Paradors. My wife is disabled, and the front desk staff couldn't be more helpful. We were escorted to our room (via a short cut) and the intruiging controls explained to us. None of the rooms are that near to the front desk, so the disabled room was a bit of a trek, but provided a conventional shower, a bath and a wetroom area - suitable for all. Fantastic design. Only stayed one night so ate at the hotel. Wonderful food and service, well worth the extra for the superior service, rather anonymous surroundings. Breakfast also good. A very interesting town. Parking is in a secure underground car park. My only minor gripe was signage. Apparently, according to the staff, because it is relatively new they have not got the approval of the local authority for proper signage. No obvious signs from the main road, but just follow signs to town centre and you'll get there eventually! Will definitely stay again if in the area. Wi-fi good by the way.

Impressive bathroom, large spacious room and friendly helfpful staff. Only one thing, for such a high tech place, the Wi Fi wasn't working.

We had a lovely last night in Spain staying at this Parador and I would stay there and any other Parador in future.

We had a family room for our three kids which was perfect. The service great, breakfast brilliant, and the spa I would highly recommend.

Room Tip: ask for the family room - really two rooms together so not only do you get an extra room, but an ext...
