“Wonderful - stay here if you are in Trujillo”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 26, 2012

This is a restored old "palacio". By that the Spanish mean a very upper class gentleman's residence. Amazingly furnished inside with a couple of sitting rooms filled with books and period furniture. Outside a pool and large gardens to sit in, plus a roof terrace.

Our room was very pleasant, it had its own sitting room as well as the bedroom and bathroom. We wished that we had booked for more than the one night.

As another reviewer has noted, finding it is not easy. Even my GPS was a bit baffled as the narrow streets hide the satellite from the car! And even when you get there, the hotel is only very discretely signed. Best carry the photo of the outside of the building with you. Parking was easy when we got there in a small private parking lot (free, and organised by the hotel)

The hotel does not offer dinner, but there is a wide selection in the main square where you can sit outside and enjoy the surroundings. The hotel gave us a map and marked their recommendations on it. If you want just a beer there are cafes there as well

The only let down we had with the hotel was the breakfast, "adequate" but not "memorable".

Trujillo itself is worth a visit, a very "Spanish" old town, not too messed by tourism. Worth a visit.

Superb find in the heart of Trujillo. An old and historic palace towards the top of the old town and certainly not for the fainthearted driver but once you walk through the doors you are transported to a sublime world of calm, taste and tranquility. We stayed for 4 nights and had the house to ourselves for most of the time which suited us but may not be everyone cup of tea. Service is very discreet but nothing was too much trouble, you just have to ask. The gardens and pool are a delight and the suite was superb. If all you want to do is immerse yourself in books, relax and enjoy an old historic rural town then it doesn't get much better than this.

Of course you have to be a little adventurous as there is no restaurant at the hotel so a stroll down the hill is needed and as well as the bars and restaurants in the old part and square we would recommend venturing down to the outskirt of town near the Victoria Hotel to try the small bars where a great glass of white wine still comes with wonderful tapas all for €2.

Situated in the heart of old town of Trujillo, the Palacio Chaves Hotel is a one of its kind.
Built from an old palace from the XV century, went through a rehabilitation plan since 2000 and now is a beautiful charm hotel, were you want to stay longer than you have planned, to say the least.
It has only 6 rooms, all different but very well equipped.
The hotel is all decorated with lots of beautiful pieces of furniture as well as wonderful decoration pieces, paintings and thousands of books.
Staff, given the size of the hotel is reduced to the minimum but very competent, friendly and always concerned with our well-being. The word was: make ourselves perfectly at home. And so it was, that we received along with the room key, one front door key, since late in the evening the receptionist went home and there was no one in the front desk. When we return back from our walking after dinner, opening the front door like at home was simply amazing. All we must had in mind was the other guests. Besides that, we could swim in the beautiful swimming pool at 4:00 am, listen to music, stay in the gardens reading or playing, in other words: make ourselves at home.
For all of those who laves that kind of service, feel like living in your own small palace with all the comfort and friendly staff, I recommend it.
Service: very friendly, like family, competent and attentive
Room: very spacious, double bed, good wc, shower. Our room has only two little windows but since it was a building of XV century… Besides there was plenty of air (we slept with the windows opened, since it was very hot) and lots of well placed lamps.
Location: Trujillo, Spain, the city is very nice and with lots of monuments and details to see. A good week-end.
