Trujillo is a small town in the Extremadura region of Spain. It is essentially in the middle of nowhere. However, many tourists come to the area for the birding at a nearby state owned park. The town of Trujillo sits on a hill of granite, and at the very top of the hill is the castle. It is a wonderful fortress, dominating the entire landscape for miles. Visitors can climb and walk the fortress walls, as well as meander around the extensive grounds. The view from the bell tower is an almost 360 degree view of the surrounding countryside, with the village directly below the castle, fields of olive trees, and acres of oak forest that supply acorns to the roaming pigs. Definitely a must do if in the area.
