“The Castle of Trujillo”
Reviewed October 24, 2012

Trujillo is a small town in the Extremadura region of Spain. It is essentially in the middle of nowhere. However, many tourists come to the area for the birding at a nearby state owned park. The town of Trujillo sits on a hill of granite, and at the very top of the hill is the castle. It is a wonderful fortress, dominating the entire landscape for miles. Visitors can climb and walk the fortress walls, as well as meander around the extensive grounds. The view from the bell tower is an almost 360 degree view of the surrounding countryside, with the village directly below the castle, fields of olive trees, and acres of oak forest that supply acorns to the roaming pigs. Definitely a must do if in the area.

“Fabulous views”
Reviewed October 24, 2012

There's not a great deal to see in the castle (except for the revolving madonna) but the views of the countryside and the town itself are well worth the walk up the hill and the small entrance fee.

“Why close an attraction like this from 2pm to 5pm?”
Reviewed October 16, 2012

I understand Spanish custom, but many people travel miles to see this place. And, then it is closed in prime "tourist" hours. Would the Prado close at siesta time?

“Nice city - nice castle”
Reviewed September 27, 2012

Went for a coffe on the nearby square and saw the castillo. Walked there - beautifull building, but there are lots of them around Spain.

“Don't miss this”
Reviewed August 7, 2012 via mobile

OK, so it's just bare walls and battlements at the top of a sun-baked hill ... But if you want to get a real feel for Extremadura, and if you want to understand something about the harsh forces that shaped the Spanish conquistadores of South America, then climb the hill, look out over the parched and unforgiving landscape of the region, and shiver at the touch of history.
