When you first enter, you a wonderful atmosphere with candles & pillows, a bar and you say to yourself, "nice place to escape from the city life". The rooms are clean but no big deal and small concedering they don't all have a view to the sea (and with the price you pay....)
The service in the morning & afternoon (pool bar-restaurant ) is horrible. You better have drank your coffee somewhere else or will fall asleep again. Besides all this, the staff tries their best. They are very polite and nice. I would recommend this hotel but not in peak season and make SURE you book a room with sea view.

Having spent two nights in the centre of Athens to see the sights, at an unexceptional (albeit 5 star) hotel, we caught the bus to Vouliagmeni for 1 euro each! The bus stopped within walking distance of the hotel, and we regretted not having chosen to spend all of our trip to Athens at the Margi. It was beautiful, stylish and relaxing. An unprepossessing hotel (of 70s construction?) has been completely refurbished to luxury standards and is as elegant as the website indicates. On arrival, we were upgraded from a superior to executive room with dual aspects over the bay and pine forest. The nearby village had a range of restaurants and the beach only a short stroll away, although the pool was so lovely we used it exclusively. The hotel has bicycles parked at the entrance which we took on a whim to Lake Vouliagmeni (on loan as distinct from hire) when the doorman suggested we use them, even though this too was in walking distance. We then borrowed them again the next day to cycle to the head of the penisula. Fantastic hotel, obliging staff, lovely breakfast at side of pool.

We stayed for 4 nights in July, in an executive room.

+ Pleasant interior decoration in all public spaces, clearly a well designed hotel.

+ Breakfast was very good.

+ The pool bar, the Malabar, attracts a nice yet quiet crowd throughout the day and into the night thus creating a very pleasant atmosphere.

+The location is very good for a stay in Vouliagmeni. All nearby beaches ( private, municipal and the free one ) are less than 5 mins walk from the hotel. The private Asteras beach is expensive but well organized. As the beaches are located on opposite sides of the narrow peninsula where the hotel is located, one can pick his spot depending on the direction of the wind. It takes about 20-30 minutes to drive to the airport, and about 30-35 to reach the city center.

+There are many nearby restaurants worth a visit, Ithaki in particular being outstanding no less due to its excellent views.

+ The staff were helpful and quite nice.

- Rooms were OK, decent size with nice furniture but the bathroom is very small. The balcony on our side overlooked the pool and also the buildings on the opposite side of the road.

- We did not try the hotel restaurant which is well regarded, but the room service we ordered once was mediocre and expensive ( re-heated risotto and an unremarkable burgher ). Clearly not a good value for money. Minibar prices are very expensive.

- The pool due to its small size is more intended as a decorative element for the bar than for actual swimming.

I recently spent a wonderful long weekend with my wife at The Margi. This charming boutique hotel proved to be an excellent choice! Its cozy atmosphere made us feel comfortable from the moment we entered the reception area. Our room was on the 4th floor of the hotel, overlooking the sea and the pine-tree forest. Although not very spacious, it was romantic, cozy and clean, featuring high quality materials. The breakfast was rich and the waitresses very friendly and polite. The area around the pool was nicely decorated with large relaxing day beds and sofas. Christos at the bar served the nicest mohito ever! In the evening, there were hundreds of small candles spread all around the hotel creating a great atmosphere. Our stay was unforgettable and we both hope to visit this hotel again in the future.

The Margi hotel is the usual hotel I stay in summer on business trips to Athens. The main reason for that is location. Because it alows to convert a few free hours on a business trip into a "mini holiday".

Let me review the different aspects of the hotel in detail:

Location:
The hotel is located in a seaside suburb of Athens called "Vouliagmeni". The Margi is not directly on the beach but about 200 meters away. There are two beaches close to the hotel. The better option is the "Astir Beach" which good sunbeds and a little snobish crowd charging an entrance fee of 15 Euro on weekdays and 25 Euro on weekends. There is also a part of the beach which can be accessed for free if you just want to swim in the sea and then return to the hotel. I like to do that in the morning before going to business meetings. Close to the hotel are also several good restaurants for example the Ithaki restaurant (perfect fish and great views, a bit conservative) or a short drive away is "Island" a great club/restaurant on a cliff above the sea. The city center of Athens (e.g. Plaka, Kolonaki) is about 25 km from the Margi Hotel. The airport is about 20 km or 25 Euro (maximum 30 Euro) by taxi. Usually there is not much traffic on that route which is a plus compared to a city center hotel in Athens.

Rooms:
The rooms of the hotel are the really weak part. Standard rooms are exactly what the name says but in no way more than average 4* standard. The rooms are certainly not the reason to stay at this hotel. The bed is comfortable and you have a minibar, a music system and a TV but thats about it. The bathrooms are very small. There is internet (wifi) in the rooms but you need to pay for it (which I consider a rip-off at a hotel of this price range!).

Public Areas/Pool:
The public areas are designed/decorated in a nice way. In particular in the evening when they lite candles around the pool and the whole poolside converts into a cool restaurant/bar. With nice music and a very nice athmosphere. A lot of local people seem to go there for dinner or some drinks. Also during the day the pool is nice to chill out with perfect music and nicely decorated. The pool by itself is small but ok to swim. Overall the public areas give the hotel a nice boutique touch and character.

Restaurants:
The breakfast is ok. Its nice to have it by the poolside. The selection of food is just ok. Nothing really special. For lunch and dinner they offer a good menu. In the evening the pool bar is a great place to have a drink or a snack.

Service:
The service is friendly but a bit on the lazy side. For example at breakfast or at the pool you need to call for the attention of the waiters. They would never come by themself to ask if you want something. In general the quality of service depends on the person providing it.

In summary the Margi is a good option to stay in summer. It has a seaside feel but in the end you would choose it because its a compromise beween price (though still expensive), comfort and location. The nearby 5*+ Astir Palace Resort is considerably better (no comparison!) but also much more expensive in summer (in winter when the Astir offers low rates and you want to stay in Vouliagmeni dont think about the Margi, stay at Astir!).

30min to the airport, approx. the same to Athens (Tramway in Glyfada - 5 min + 20min to Acropolis) and to the see! We can't fly to Athens without staying in Margi! Really great service, excellent welcome outside (thanks to dimitris) and inside (reception, restaurant, malabar café), very nice atmosphere with smiling people, already ready to help. Very good food quality. Clean rooms, very nice decoration everywhere. Very relaxing time not far from the city, the airport and the see in nice suburbs. Last tip: AstirBeach (15€ per head) to diversify...pool/astirbeach/pool....:))

Our first impression of The Margi was the "wow" factor. We entered into the trendy reception area with staff dressed in white eager to check us in. We immediately felt at home in such elegant atmospheric surroundings and we felt relaxed with the "cool" music playing all around us.

Our room was on the fifth floor and we had an Executive room. Whilst it was not that large it was beautifully furnished and we thought it must have been recently renovated as everything looked new. We had a balcony overlooking the pool and the sea in the distance.

The pool area was very trendy with Arabic influences and was quite stunning. Pool service by white attired staff was exceptional, although the drinks were not cheap. At night the pool area was transformed into a romantic candlelit and elegant meeting place for drinks or food in the adjoining restaurant. It attracted the the elegant local clientelle as well as hotel guests.

Breakfast was comprehensive and excellent with very attentive service in nice surroudings.

This was a very atmospheric boutique hotel with quality stylish furnishings throughout and superb service from staff who genuinely seemed interested in serving you. Whilst it was set slightly inland and not directly overlooking the sea, this was not the disadvantage we thought it might be as the immediate surrounding area was quiet.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and we would return.
