We have been coming to Glyfada for a number of years recently and during this recent visit we used a new hotel that really met our expectations. Clean, reasonably priced, cheerful, helpful staff, buffet breakfast with reasonable offerings and in a close proximity to the area’s shops and restaurants. In previous years we stayed at Johns Hotel that was going downhill until it closed last year, then one street further away at Sea View Hotel that was noisy and lacked a number of characteristics that we found now at Golden Sun Hotel. We wish we had gone there from the beginning; it might be three streets further away from the center but the distance is hardly noticeable. But the difference in the surroundings and ambiance together with service levels certainly is. We are very satisfied with this hotel and we will be coming back next year again during our visit to Glyfada.

After staying in some very dubious hotels in Greece which were supposedly 4 stars, I was resigned to the usual rather unsavoury experience. There seemed to be nothing between €70-80 and €400+, so imagine my surprise when we opened the door to a large, well appointed room with a balcony over a decent sized pool! The room was very clean and although the bathroom only had a shower it all looked brand new and was exceptionally clean. The pool area is tidy and well kept and also very clean. Sorry to keep on about cleanliness but despite having lived in parts of Greece for a good amount of time I could never really reconcile myself to their idea of clean - and believe me, I am by no means one of those fanatical ladies on this subject. The last place we stayed at was infested with flies, spiders and my own particular bête noir - cockroaches.

It is true that the hotel is situated on a busy road but that didn't bother us at all as it has double glazing and you can switch on the air conditioning.

The reception staff at the Golden Sun are extremely welcoming, speak very good English and could not be more helpful.

Also, free wifi throughout the hotel!

Don't hesitate.

Strongly recommended. Location great for local bars, beaches and restaurants. Hotel service first rate and very friendly. Overall good value for money. Strongly recommended. Pool nice too. Aim for a room on quiet side, away from the team line!

Very good nice hotel in the great location of Glyfada, a quite posh suburb of Athens. Lots of nice restaurants, coffe bars, tea rooms and very nice shops. A place where the Greeks come to relax away from the city, but the incredibly friendly and relaxed Greeks are very welcoming to tourists/foreign visitors. Location of hotel in Glyfada very good close to main centre with very short walk (less than 5 minutes) to get to closest restaurant and supermarket. Restaurants are catering for the what the Greeks like rather than tourists, so not so much Moussaka and Souvlaki around, but still very nice food.

The tram that runs just outside, and does cause a little noise in the room, takes you all the way into centre of Athens for 1.20 EU and takes around 45 minutes.

The hotel is in places a little tired (carpets on the 3rd floor), but is actually spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Double bed in our triple room a little on the small side (and quite hard!, but I find all beds hard). Very nice newly refurbished bathroom with a good shower. Fridge in the room, not very cold. Not much storage space for 3 people. Safe in one of the wardrobes. Fixed hairdrier in the bathroom. Nice little balcony with a couple of chairs and a table. Airconditioning.

After reading reviews here regarding the location of the rooms and the noise caused by the main road just outside, we asked for a quiet room away from the main road which they were very happy to accommodate. However it is worth being aware that if you are not facing the main road, you are facing the pool and the tramline! The trams ran from around 6 in the morning until midnight, and they did wake me up in the morning, but it wasn't a big problem even though I am a light sleeper.

Free wi-fi in the entire hotel (even worked by the pool) with quite good connection in our room and other areas of hotel.

Breakfast in the main dining room very nice with a reasonable selection. If you are interested in a huge breakfast you may find this a little sparse, but for me and my family's taste it was perfectly adequate. Tea, Coffe (I heard some getting hot choc by request), toast, croissants, pain au chocolate, preserves, cereals with fresh cold milk, small hot selection of eggs and some days sausages some days bacon, greek salad items, greek yogert and fresh fruit. Do you really need any more for breakfast?

Small pool area outside, very clean and nice, but probably no more than 15 or so sun loungers + tables and chairs. There was a poolbar but it wasn't open during our visit. Pool menu of standard greek lunch items, baguettes, club sandwich, omelettes, some pasta dishes + alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

Staff absolutely fantastic, knowledgable and helpful throughout the entire hotel.

We had a really good stay and I would go back to this hotel again.

Room Tip: I don't think the rooms on the pool/tram side are any more quiet than the room facing the road.

Modern, clean , friendly hotel. Lovely pool and good breakfast. Well placed for tram into Athens 1.20 euro takes 45 mins and bus to airport x96 stops outside.
Staff very helpful suggesting restaurants for dinner in the evening and giving us map of Athens and marking places to see and where to stop for coffee and lunch etc.
Bedrooms recently refurbished with lovely modern bathrooms and very powerful shower and bath.
Spotlessly clean.
Would definately recommend if you want to stay outside Athens , glyfada a nice suburb with lots of restaurants and some fantastic shops. Also nice beaches so you can combine a city break with some beach time.
Only minor down point is there is some road noise , but we will definately return. Big thank you to young lady on reception and pool waitress who were especially helpful and friendly with ideas to make break fantastic with ideas off the tourist trail.

This hotel ticked all that I look for in a good hotel, spacious lobby, large rooms and friendly staff. The location is also excellent with the tram stop hardly 2 minutes away and the beach just across the main road. We were here for a wedding so didn't really venture out much but it was very close to a lovely shopping and restaurant/coffee area. The pool was great amidst palm trees and gave a great feel. The only issue was the number of people smoking by the pool but I guess it is common in that part of the world. The room was amazing, absolutely big.
