“Good staff, nice public spaces, easy transportation”
Reviewed October 9, 2007

We spent two nights in mid-September, 2007. The public spaces in this hotel show lots of care and thought, and are really pleasant: there's an outdoor bar area with fountain and umbrellas, a clean attractive pool, and a nice lounge and restaurant area with a very appealing breakfast. The rooms are not quite up to the same standard -- they're smaller, with fewer amenities than one would hope for, but clean with comfortable beds. The biggest problem overall is that the hotel is close to a very noisy major thoroughfare, with constant traffic. It's also close to the beach, though, and right around the corner is a tram stop to get to central Athens (which takes about 45 minutes, but is very inexpensive and pleasant). Not far from the hotel is a mid- to upscale shopping area with lots of international chains (from MacDonalds to Hagen Dasz!). If you walk the other direction for 20 minutes along the beach, there are tavernas and beach restaurants of various classes.

The staff -- in particular the English desk associate, Michael -- were forthcoming and helpful, with good suggestions. We had to leave a day early, and they were flexible and reasonable about cancellation, too.

If you want a pleasant and helpful place on the outskirts of Athens with good public transportation, you'll be satisfied here.

What is it your looking for?
Do you want to stay near Athens city - yes?
Do you want to be near a beach - yes?
Do you want to do a bit of shopping - yes?
Do you want a hotel with a swimming pool - yes?

Then you have your spot - read the reviews, I did, but I tend to ignore them and go to places and make my own mind up.

BUSY ROAD - Yes there is a 6 lane roadway next to the hotel and yes it is noisy if your sitting out on the balcony above it, but once you go inside and close the doors the noise dies down - try asking for a room away from the road when booking if it is really going to annoy you. After all half of the rooms are NOT overlooking this road.

DO YOU HAVE TO CROSS IT - Yes, but you do not have to play with the traffic as some would make you believe. To get into the very centre of Glyfada you have two options:
(1) walk the whole way, about half a mile, along the footway at the side of the "busy" road untill you come to the traffic lights. Push the button on the traffic light and amazingly the lights will shortly afterwards turn red and all the traffic stops then you walk across and carry on to your destination. or
(2) come out of the hotel - turn left towards the sea away from this road, walk approx 200m to the tram stop, wait about 5 mins for the next tram to come, get on it and it will take you right up into the centre of town, and back again when you have finished.

This very same tram stop can be used to get into the very centre of Athens (Syntagma Square) about 40 mins for 0.60euro: and if you go in the opposite direction through the centre of Glyfada to the very last stop about (5 mins) and a 200m walk there is a terrific sandy beach with loungers, bar/cafe, changing facilities etc for 6euro per day (3 for kids).
The beach down the street from the hotel is not great - no loungers and a bit gritty.

Central Glyfad has many shops and shopping malls, bars restraunts etc. Get a map at reception there are loads of them.

STAFF: Couldn't beat them. They are all really, really friendly and helpful. Guy called Kris on reception speaks excellent English in an Australian accent and any advise he gave us was ace.

No safety deposit box in room, although they are at reception and there was no problem getting access to it and they are free.
