“Fab place to stay”
Reviewed November 3, 2013 via mobile

Stopped here two nights as a base to see Tikal ruins and wasn't disappointed. Lovely social areas to chill in, with little turtles to keep you company, and very friendly helpful staff. Food and drink was great and well priced for the area, and I took advantage of the massage service too which was one of the best I've ever had. Only slight negative is my dorm was right by the reception/main entrance, and with people leaving at all hours for sunrise tours and shuttles it was a bit disruptive in the night. Not too party party but the upstairs bar is far enough away from rooms that if you wanted to continue drinking to the wee hours you could do without disturbing everyone else. Great wee hostel, you won't be disappointed.

Excellent service, great onward travel help. Rooms clean with fresh sheets no bed bugs or cockroaches. We booked a private room with shared bathroom. We walked down the street to Amigos two and into a massive room with two double beds and a door that opened into the street. We had pedestal fans that helped greatly with the humidity to circulate the air. Great atmosphere in the main hostel very kicked backed and relaxed food was massive serves. If anyone bags this place they have never been really backpacking as I've stayed in some holes! This is paradise and if a few cockies crawl in welcome to the tropics! Keep up the great work!

What more could you want then hostel built around trees, plants with lizards and turtles and open sky. Multiple areas for chilling including a swing and hammocks. Great staff, great food and own travel agency. Plus many other bonuses that would take too long to write up. Don't be put off if not a youth like me and my friend - chilled place with no all night parties or drunks. Lots of dorms and private rooms at ridiculously low prices. Must be best hostel ever stayed in and I have been backpacking for 25 years!

So Los Amigos is an obvious and great choice staying in Flores or wanting to tour Tikal (the Mayan ruins) they offer... Not only great rates but a full service tour/bus/canoe/help desk for any and all needs... Come to Flores with no plan and leave with the know how from Mexico,Belize, and Guatemala all from their helpful staff... Full service restraunt, bar, laundry, massage service and after hours lounge... Just a few things to know about Los Amigos I would appreciate:

If you don't mind a more noisy nights sleep the main building has the dorms about $40Q/bed with shared baths in the main common area with hammocks and the lounge so that can get a bit loud, but also a great party and hang out spot with some cheap food and drinks.

Private rooms weather they are with or without a bathroom come in a variety of options... Again if you are partying they offer a tree house right above the bar that is not to private but looks amazing, as well as other units in building 1... that building is staffed 24/7 and you have to ring a bell to enter it is the reception and tour desk as well, ALOT of traffic.

I was lucky enough to book (on accident) a private room in building 2 just down the road for only $120Q for 2, shared bathroom but here's the thing, it's only shared with maybe 2 rooms.. This building you have a key to the main door and they offer free purified drinking water in this building only, it is VERY quiet and mellow, but you have all the access to building 1 anyway... So building 2 is more secluded and private, quiet, and chill, so if the party worries you, ask for building 2 and it's an amazing experience they have roof top hammocks and way less partying! No dorms in building 2 and cleaner bathrooms, most people don't even know about it, probably more secure but both buildings are very safe, friendly, and English speaking.

So that's the run down, Los Amigos rocks for any kind of hostel traveler just in your reservation ask for what you think applies to you or take what you can get, but now you know! I loved my quiet stay and awesome parties in the other building! E mail them 2 days in advance if you want to be specific and secure your reservation or call if you can.

A MUST STAY if your in Flores or even close!

While backpacking through Central America you will very likely end up in Flores and then you should stay at Los Amigos. It is very cheap (Q45 a night in a dorm), the travel agency is well-run, centrally located and with a great atmosphere.

It's run by two Dutch guys, and they really made this a great hostel (serieus). This is one of the few hostels on the Island that hasn't a lake view, but it makes this up for this by providing a fantastic inside-garden/hangout/bar/restaurant. With very good food (try the burgers!!! And the frappachino for something sweet), chill hammocks, countless cozy corners to sit and a great place to meet people you find yourself not wanting to leave this hostel to see the rest of the island.

For those wanting to party they have a 'soundproof' bar where everybody goes after 9:00 pm, creating the opportunity to socialize and party without having to worry about the neighbors.

But probably the best thing about this hostel is the in-house travel agency they have. Nelson sits there behind his desk and is a great guy who is (or used to be) a backpacker himself. He gives great advice, offers very cheap prices (we've compared!!!) and if you phone him up 5 days after you've left the hostel he still knows exactly who you are and will help you with whatever you need helping with. They also provide a level of service and guarantee I've yet to see with any other travel agency. If you've booked through them they feel responsible until you've come back and are satisfied, not just until you pay them your money.

The only downside was that the rooms were unbearably warm, but I doubt there was more they could do about that, considering the climate and the fact they are in the middle of the island with no breeze to cool the rooms. And for the Q 120 for a private room with shared bathroom is was very nicely decorated and clean.

Must be one of the best run hostels I stayed in.

Goed werk gasten!

very good value for the private rooms.
take the ones upstairs...the ones in the ground floor got a little flooded because of heavy rain, when we where there.

clean and simple rooms.
they just got quite hot during the day.
