Our room overlooked the lake and was not noisy at all. We had a fabulous view and spacious room. Staff were friendly and helpful. Not so sure about the Fruit Loops and Cornflakes for the continental offering. Surely time to upgrade to granola like the rest of Guatemala. But plenty of choice at the restaurant next door. We'd stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view.

Yes, it has ceiling fans and a/c, but it is extremely noisy as it looks out over the road that circles the island, and there is traffic (foot & tuk-tuks) almost all night. Of course, this gives it a nice view of the lake as well, but if you want to sleep, it's not ideal. Also, there is only a cold water tap on the sink. If you want peace & quiet, choose a hotel NOT on the road which circles the periphery of the island. Seemed expensive for what you get.

Room Tip: Might try to get a room giving on to the side street.

Glad I stayed here when I went to visit Tikal! SO affordable, a little more expensive than a hostel and have all the basic hotel amenities (It's around $20/person if you share a room). Very clean and the shower was awesome after a long day of running around the ruins. Beds are comfy and TV and A/C are all good.

Two things that stood out about this place. We had a lakefront room and gah, it was so gorgeous. Best thing is to wake up after a good quiet night of sleep to that lake. Their staff is also the best, specifically Federico, their front desk person. He was so patient with me (spoke great English too) and answered all my questions. Really knowledgeable and honest, with a great heart. One of those people that goes above and beyond for his job every day.

Room Tip: Ask for a lakefront room if there are any available!

This hotel probably isn't the nicest in Flores, but it's not bad. It's clean, the pre-arrival communication by e-mail was good, our room was large, our bed comfortable, the shower vigorous, wifi is good, and great views to the lake. Cons: it definitely doesn't have in any way a luxurious feel, the rooms facing the lake are extremely noisy, the receptionist swore inaccurately that the only shuttle to Tikal went at 3am, and the breakfast is the most basic and disappointing I've encountered in 2 trips to Guatemala, to be avoided unless you're penniless. Luckily there are plenty of breakfast options nearby, and the travel agent opposite can help with shuttles etc. All in all, this option is fine, but don't let its Tripadvisor ranking raise your expectations too much.

Casa Amelia is on the island of Flores, in the heart of activity and situated on the lake. The very best part of Casa Amelia is the rooftop views at sunset. The rooms are spacious and I feel we got a good value for our money. It is not a fancy place, but adequate and affordable. We were visiting Tikal and would like to have stayed a few days in the city of Flores and the surrounding area.

Hotels are pretty basic in Flores, so don't expect the Hilton. But for around $45 US a night this place offers good sized rooms, clean bathrooms and aircon without the frills. Great views of the lake from rooms 104 and 204 and it has a nice rooftop terrace to watch the sunset.
Breakfast is pretty bad, coffee ok - but the wifi is great as is the service.
Enjoy!

We stayed here 2 nights, and while it's more expensive than a guesthouse or hostel, it is very nice.

Pluses:
1) Free breakfast, though note it's just coffee, cereal, and biscuits with jelly. It is not cooked or hot.
2) Free wi-fi
3) Awesome rooftop lounge with chairs, facing the lake
4) Very nice staff
5) Fairly clean and quiet (our room faced the lake and the main street, but noise was not too bad)
6) Reliable hot water
7) Lakeside, and right in front of a public dock for swimming!
8) Walkable to everything in Flores (but then again, EVERY place is walkable, it's a tiny town)
9) A/C
10) The front desk will lend you free towels for the "beach" out front!

Minuses:
1) A bit more expensive than a guesthouse. You're paying for A/C and reliable hot water, so you get what you pay for! :)
2) There is a bar down the street that is LOUD, and thumpin' all night. If you are a light sleeper, this could be a problem.

Overall, very nice place, would recommend.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the top floor, facing the lake. No extra fee for these extra-special rooms.
