We stayed in the Bluebonnet room that has it's own private balcony. So peaceful and homey. Imagine stepping back in time and visiting your Grandmother. Room is so spacious, beds very comfortable, bathroom/shower very clean and roomy. There's even a towel heater! The whole home is so tastefully decorated with antiques and accents just like "grandma's". The yard (front and back) is neatly manicured with all kinds of native plants and trees and added little touches of "home". We loved sitting on the balcony, relaxing listening to the birds. But even if you don't get the private balcony, the front porch of the house is awesome too with a porch swing. And then there's the backyard with the gazebo and several seating areas. Next morning we walked down Church Street and oh my gosh...SUCH beautiful historic homes in this neighborhood. To top it off, Debbie and Gary are the BEST hosts and it's obvious they truly love what they do. We sat on the bar stools in the kitchen while they were cooking breakfast for us and visited just like old friends. Did I mention breakfast? Homemade cinnamon rolls, homemade biscuits, scrambled eggs, baked pears, cheese jalapeno grits and bacon...yum, yum! So delicious! I'm thinkin' a "girl's trip" to McKinney is in my future and going back to the Red Gate Inn!

Wonderful host and hostess. Beautiful home and grounds. We stayed in the Rose room. It is huge, has a game room and was incredibly comfortable. The beds were amazing. The theme is Texas and there is no room for doubt in that area. There is a great wrap around porch. Many, many amenities are provided. BUT the number one reason to visit is the BREAKFAST. Oh my. The tables are beautiful and the food is the best we have had in years of visiting B&B's all over the country. This place is a winner. Enjoy your stay.

Room tip: We loved our room over the garage, but I think any room in this place would be great.

We have enjoyed many bed and breakfast stays ove the years, and we rate this one the best we can remember. The old two story circa 1914 house has been beautifully and tastefullly restored. Debbie and Gary the Innkeepers are a perfect delight. You will feel like you have know them for years. Debbie has an outstanding eye for decor and it is reflected in the nice touches you will find throughout the house. You will also get fresh flowers for your stay. The breakfast servings will just amaze you. Fresh fruit, homemade cinnamon rolls and biscuits, eggs, bacon, sausage, juices and coffee. And the grits, you have to try them, they are just delicious. The grounds are shaded by beautiful pecan and ornamental trees. The pecan trees must be over a hundred years old, they are huge.
The Ropers are wonderful as innkeepers. You will be made to feel like a special long lost friend of the family. We stayed in the Yellow Rose room and the wife enjoyed the old 700 pound claw footed bath tub. The rooms are upstairs but they are easy to negotiate. Just be aware that stairs are involved if you stay in the house. You will not ever be sorry for choosing the Red Gate Inn as your home away from home! Give it a try!

Room tip: Bluebonnet room has a balcony.

I took my mom and 15 year old daughter to the Red Gate Inn this weekend for a quick get-away and it was wonderful! We stayed in the upstairs Bluebonnet room and it was so clean and beautiful. The innkeepers, Gary and Debbie, are the absolute sweetest people. They did everything in the world to make sure we had an enjoyable stay. The breakfast was fantastic, their restaurant recommendations were perfect, and they made us feel like long lost friends returning for a visit. We loved every minute.

I bring VIP clients to town to work with them, and last week I had 2 coming, and the hotel I usually use was booked full with its suites. I found the Red Gate Inn, and now I will use them exclusively for all my VIP Days moving forward. This is a beautiful restored home on my favorite street in McKinney, Church Street, within walking distance of the downtown historic square. My client was pampered and waited on and treated so wonderfully during her entire stay that she is still raving about it. I was given the same treatment during the time I was there with my client. The owners served a huge breakfast of homemade goodies, and then served myself and my client a full tea later in the day with homemade scones and fresh fruit. Beautiful roses and wine from a local winery were waiting for her in her suite. The room was perfect for her to stay in and then for us to work in during our time together. I was given full run of the house and my every need met. Every detail in this home is attended to with such perfection. The hosts are gracious, friendly and welcoming people. This is the perfect place for a getaway for business or a very relaxing vacation in McKinney. Thank you, Red Gate Inn!

Room tip: The Bluebonnet Room has a beautiful porch that overlooks the trees and Church Street. The Red Rose Room is separate, with its own entry, and has a living room setting with a fireplace. The Yellow Rose Room is feminine and quiet. All the rooms are lovely and each unique.
