“We like this place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2013 via mobile

We book on line. Have been here 4 times. We stay at a site by the water. Camp is always clean, bath and toilets spotless and staff friendly and helpful ! Fish on river's edge or go to pier which is lighted. Two piers in camp ground, 2 nearby. Saturday they have programs but sign up over internet because if no one signs up it will be canceled. They rent sit in kayaks. We will go back. Stickers were pretty bad. Do not forget bug spray! Beach right there also!

“Be Aware! You may book rsvp's online..ADDED ENTRY FEES!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2013

WTW? Never heard of this before. It's just crazy for sure. Be PREPARED to fork over 5 bucks per person PER DAY to even HAVE ACCESS TO the RSVP you PREPAID IN ADVANCE to www.reserveamerica.com when you ARRIVE. $ 5 FIVE DOLLARS PER PERSON ENTRY FEE ....PER DAY ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Usually when you book an RSVP and they ask the length of your trailer and HOW many people will be occupying it will quote you a price and charge your credit card accordingly. Well, NOT HERE! SURPRISE AGAIN! ; ((((

How can you charge for an RV or Tent camping spot without a warm body to set it up? What are you paying for then?

Been going here for years on end. Haven't been there since May 2013...SURPRISE!!! THIS WAS IMPLEMENTED ON JULY 1ST 2013. No wonder the park was nearly empty when we got there. And we would watch other RV's check in at the office (mostly because we were so bored to death there, that was all there was to do because if you even walked outside for even a minute to do anything with OFF MOSQUITO SPRAY all over your body...you would return a hundred fold of them sucking to your body when you came back inside your RV.

They DON'T TELL YOU THAT WHEN you book it!!!!!!!!!!!! No wonder nobody goes there anymore. Mosquito's galore! The county evidently doesn't do anything about the mosquito control. Can't pick up a TV signal. No cable TV. Laptops don't work there. Tablets work but monitored. No downloading games, etc

No REFUNDS if you book in advance for ANY RV sites if you leave early. And if you prePAY your so called daily entrance fees per person....and have to leave early due to incliment weather or anything other than health or a death in the family......you will also loose your PREPAID ENTRANCE FEES that you paid in ADVANCE.

Good luck with that. No Refunds whatsoever. As far as the ENTRANCE FEES...per person, yo have to approach the check in desk, and they have to call their supervisor, and they will MAYBE write you a CREDIT good for 6 months towards if you EVER COME BACK AGAIN TOWARDS YOUR ENTRY FEES.

What sucks is the surprise of it all. Coming here for years on end. Used to reserve through Texas Parks and Wildlife. Worth the hold time now that I reflect how awful LCRA has made the whole process. And why is my trailer being advertised on at least 7 of their sites withOUT my consent for being photographed every being there? Ugh.

Used to be my favorite place ever. Not so much any more.

I can't imagine families showing up without knowing this that have lots of kids in tow over 13 and finding out this craziness. Or retired people expecting to chill here for a month and having to pay those extra fees, unless you are under the age of 65 I think, but beware EVEN YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY 3 BUCKS A PERSON PER DAY TO BE THERE! And you won't discover this until you GET THERE.

Am thinking the BBB should might be notified of this malpractice as the www.reserveamerica.com website is not NOTIFYING paying reservation customers IN ADVANCE of THESE CONDITIONS!

Sorry for all the !!!!'s. Just feel so TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF. As I'm sure others who arrive without knowing the added costs and the new protocol of the park who find out when they arrive about the new NO REFUND POLICY.

“Will visit again”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2013

The park is located at the mouth of the Colorado River and Gulf of Mexico. The LCRA run campground and park has 1/3 of the concrete pad sites backing up to the river. Restrooms and visitor center are clean. The beach is within a short walk. I'm not a fisherman but most visitors were, especially kayakers catching flounders in the shallow bay area. We will be back again next spring. There aren't a lot of attractions so come here if you want to relax.

We ate at The River Bend Restaurant and had Red Snapper - best seafood I've tasted in 30+ years.

I visited the park in April. I'd recommend the park for spring or fall camping. Having grown up on the gulf coast as a kid, I don't want any part of being at the beach in summer.

“Great RV park!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2013

This review focuses on the RV section of the park. It's easy access for big rigs like our 38ft. 5th wheel. Nice, long, level, paved sites with full hook ups, no cable but some network channels available over the antenna. The spacious sites are located along the Colorado river and the gulf is a short walk or drive away so it's a great spot for fishing. Seems to be pretty popular with Texans during the weekend but it's quiet during the week. Within the RV park there's a small fishing dock on the river and on the bay, there's a much bigger, public fishing pier.

Free WIFI works best at the sites in the south loop, closest to the Nature centre. We had a strong connection and were pleasantly surprised by the speed. Nice, modern, clean bath house and laundry.

Our only complaint with the park is it's reservation system. You can book online via Reserve America but there's a $6 charge for doing that. We could tell there were lots of sites available for the 4 day weekend we wanted to visit so we just showed up and figured we'd avoid paying the extra $6 charge. But, we were informed by the park staff that we could only walk in and pay for 2 nights at a time, even if the site was available for longer. What a stupid rule! So to make sure we could stay on the site we selected, we had to go online and book the 2 extra nights we wanted to stay so Reserve America got it's $6 out of us anyways. We could have taken the chance that our site would have still been available after the first 2 nights and done the 2 day walk in payment again but we didn't want to risk the site getting reserved online by someone else. The park staff really should be allowed to update the reservation system for guests who come in at the last minute and want to stay for longer periods. I feel sorry for them having to explain this to people and to her credit, the person who explained this to us was very nice and helpful.

Oh yeah, there's no diesel fuel available in Matagorda, you have to drive to Wadsworth to get it. That town is about 20 minutes from the park.

This was our second time here and we'd definitely come back if we were in the area.
