Last year, on our way back from Lubbock to Dallas, we opted for the road less traveled and encountered the Hotel Matador Bed & Breakfast when we stopped for water at the town store. The Hotel is right off the main road and the owners invited us in for a visit when we poked our head in the door. They graciously showed us around the lovely historic inn, decorated ala Texana style, with all the comforts of home: a roomy and comfortable sitting area with a large flat screen television, magazines, beautiful West Texas photography books, lemonade, ice water, a plate of warm cookies, a huge dining room set with the finest china, silver and linens and a coffee and beverage bar, beckoning us to stop and savor the quiet of another time and day. The rooms were tastefully decorated, encompassing relevant historic periods, with modern comforts. The upstairs sitting area, with a mini beverage service area and more magazines, was another inviting public space. We vowed to return soon when we could pause to enjoy The Hotel Matador B&B.
