“Nice Hampton Inn”
Reviewed August 2, 2009

This review rates this hotel as it compares with others in the immediate area. It is not a four star hotel in New York City however we feel it si worthy of four stars in Marshall. Located just a short distance off Interstate 20 as are several other hotels at the same intersection. We checked out three other hotels at the intersection before settling on the Hampton Inn. The lobby was very clean and the receptionist was professional and courteous. We asked for a special rate and was offered a special rate with a slight upgrade at no additional cost. Plenty of free parking. Elevator worked fine as we were on the second floor. Room was clean. TV set is old in thsi room but worked adequately. Bathroom was clean. Good towels and other amenities. Shower head was getting old and wasn't the best. Breakfast is advertised as "hot". Well that means a pre cooked egg and sausage the day we were there. The rest of the breakfast bar was more inviting and we found it more than adequate. The person responsible for keeping the breakfast area stocked was doing an excellent job since we cam to the area well after opening hours and there was plenty of everything. Food was fresh, especially the fresh fruit was was of excellent quality. Three kinds of coffee and several kinds of tea were available. This is a nice , clean, well managed small hotel located in a small town in East Texas.

We stayed one night at this hotel and found it to be fairly typical of the older hotels in the Hampton chain. Carpets, tile, wallpaper, etc., in our room and in the corridors and public areas were in pretty good shape so the property has probably been updated in the past few years. The room appeared to be clean and there were no problems with equipment, furniture or anything else in the room. The breakfast area was clean and the breakfast was typical with a hot item, biscuits, muffins, bagels, fruit, cereal, etc. The only thing that might cause some concern is that there was more noise than usual from the floor above us. We heard creaking floorboards every time the people in the room above us walked through the room. We're not talking about people partying or jumping on the floors -- this was just folks walking through their room. If that is a concern for you, I'd suggest a top floor room. There was no noise from adjacent rooms or the hallway while we were there. Hotel is next to a Wendy's and a Subway and close to several other places to get a quick meal.

I recently stayed at this hotel for a two-week period on business. Marshall, Texas is a small town and there are few lodging choices, none of them higher than a Hampton Inn/Fairfield Suites/Comfort Inn category. All in all, if you find yourself needing a hotel room in Marshall, the Hampton Inn is a decent place to stay.

The front desk staff and housekeepers were unfailing friendly and efficient. That goes a long way in my book.

The room was large enough, with a comfortable king-size bed and a comforter and duvet instead of a scratchy, tacky bedspread that you sometimes find in this category hotel. The clothing storage was adequate. Each room is equipped with a desk, small sofa, microwave and small refrigerator (not a mini-bar). The two negatives are that there is no sheer curtain between the window and the heavy blackout curtain, which means if you want any sunlight at all, you have no privacy, and the room has one of those noisy air conditioning units under the window instead of central air.

The bathroom had a few problems, including peeling wallpaper (not appealing) and a toilet that rarely completely flushed on the first try. However, it was clean, which is of paramount importance. The shower had adequate water pressure.

There is a small gym, which houses three pieces of functioning, albeit somewhat outdated and well-worn pieces of True cardio equipment: a treadmill, elliptical and bike. The bike needs maintenance--the frame is so loose it creaks and wobbles a little alarmingly.

There is a pool and hot tub that I didn't use. It looks clean, but it's right there in the parking lot, adjacent to the Wendy's drive-through.

The Hampton Inn serves a complimentary breakfast every day until 10:00 a.m. The items are pretty basic (muffins, bagels, bread, yogurt, cereal), but not bad. There is a different hot item each day, but as they were highly-processed to the point of not being readily identifiable (are those french toast sticks or some kind of potato product?), I steered clear of the hot item.

I think we paid around $79 a night, which is a reasonable value.

  • Disliked — I prefer a hotel with more amenities.

We needed a place to crash on a late night drive through Texas and found this hotel on our Streets and Trips. So we called and they gave us a discounted rate of $79 since we were checking in past midnight. (It was cheaper than the Holiday Inn Express) The bed was a dream and it had so many more amenities than you come to expect from your average "interstate roadside" hotel. It was also extremely clean. We saved at least $10 on breakfast by eating a hot deluxe meal that included scrambled ham and eggs and was quite delicious. (included in price of room)

We will definitely stay here again. Hopefully we will have longer to enjoy that wonderful bed next time.

I stayed at the Hampton during October/November 2006.
For a 2 star hotel, you can't get much better than this.

If you are anything like me, then a clean hotel room is a must. I didn't have any problems at all with the Hampton.
The rooms were cleaned every day, fresh towels brought and the bedding was changed every week.
The bed was extremely comfortable, and roomy, which made getting up in the morning difficult :o)

There is free internet access in the rooms with a desk for your laptop, aircon is fairly quiet, there is also a refrigerator and microwave which made life a little easier.

Breakfast is quite basic, not many hot items on offer, (in fact I think only 2 each day), but there were muffins, toast, cereal, fruit etc which you could eat as much as you liked of.
There was also the option of getting a 'breakfast to go' bag, which contained the usual fayre.

Desk staff were friendly and helpful..even bringing me a new telephone when I couldn't dial international.
Pool looked nice, but as it was October..didn't fancy trying it out.

Gym area very basic..just 3 machines: treadmill, exercise bike and elliptical strider...but they did the job.

All in all, a really good experience and I would most definitely stay there again.

My family and I recently stayed at the Hampton Inn in Marshall, TX and though the facility itself was impeccable the service was the most displeasing experience we have ever had in our stays at a hotel/motel. The young lady at the front desk had to have been the most rudest person we have ever encountered in our years of traveling. We travel all around the great state of Texas every summer and this was the worst experience we've had. We left our daughters bathing suit in the hotel and no one has found it. I find that so very hard to believe since she had to undress in the room before we went out for the night. I apologize for the negative comment, but I am still upset even though it has been days.

My husband, granddaughter, and I recently stayed at the Marshall, TX Hampton Inn after reading about it on Trip Advisor.
I just wanted you to know it was very accommodating, clean, and the staff is excellent. After we checked in, the clerk called our room and asked if we needed anything and how was the room. We were greeted with delicious cookies, and the hot and cold breakfast items were wonderful! The pool is not large, but very nice. The new bedding is delicously soft and cuddly. We were pleased enough to drive a little further and stay again on our return route! Our second night's stay was just as pleasureable!
