“I'd stay here again.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 31, 2011

We drove to the Marfa area from Kansas for the Memorial Day weekend. We wanted to see the Marfa Lights, then go on south to Chinati Hot Springs the next day. We knew we were going to get in late, so the staff at Riata Inn made arrangements for us to get into our room when we got there. They were also very helpful with directions and advice about the Marfa Lights. We had planned to stay at the historic El Paisano Hotel in downtown Marfa, but they wanted a two-night stay commitment, which we didn't have....so, we stayed at the Riata. The beds were clean and OK. The shower was hot and the TV worked. Didn't stay long enough to try the pool. It's a "no frills" place to get a shower and some sleep for around $80.

In Marfa, we first stopped at the Thunderbird Inn, but that motel was, in our view, totally overpriced. Besides that, the reception was cold - not cool - and when we took a brief look around the pool of this 'design motel' it struck us that the people who were hanging around this small pool did not look 'designish' at all.
Anyway, 10 minutes later we checked in at the Riata Inn. Here no fancy so called ''design attitude'' but a straight and honest US-motel with a bit of route 66 flair - we Europeans love it. And all that for half te price of the Thunderbird Inn. Of course it isn't a super clean grand resort, but considering the price it was a reasonable one night stop on our way to Big Bend National Park. The Riata Inn was average, in that case okay for us.

The Riata Inn was the perfect choice for our purposes. It was clean, quiet, comfortable, well-located, the rates were reasonable and the owners, Traci and Rick, could not have been more helpful and welcoming. We enjoyed our time in Marfa immensely and the wonderful hospitality we experienced at the Riata Inn contributed a lot to our favorable impressions and great memories of Marfa.

This hotel was not the greatest. It was not very clean, and the shower kept alternating from hot to cold. Bathroom is extremely cramped. The lighting felt dim and creepy. But the service was very friendly. The living area/bedroom was pretty spacious, though.

This isn't the most amazing place you've ever stayed, but it serves the purpose. It's seven miles from the Marfa lights platform, about one mile from downtown, and the rooms are very large.

We were six of us women traveling thru the Big Bend, and to El Paso for a bowling tournament and decided to finish our girls road trip in Marfa to check out the Marfa lights and have a evening of rest, adult beverages and relaxation....and this quaint hotel provided it all....First of all Rick and Tracy are absolutely the nicest and most accomodating people we encountered all of our trip....we sat outside of our rooms and just enjoyed the West Texas laid back evening and enjoyed visiting with Tracy and she gave us some info on the local places to go. the hotel is just what you need when you have had a hard day of driving...large rooms with comfortable beds and fridge, microwave, and clean!!!! I am not sure where other reviewers that claim otherwise came from or what they expect, but this hotel is great and you won't be dissappointed with the rooms or Rick and Tracy...Thanks guys for a fun stay.....maybe us crazy women from South Texas will head out that way again for some R & R!!!!! Lanie and Compadres ;)

We made reservations to stay here two months in advance. We were quoted $65 a nite for a king room. When we arrived at 2:40PM, our room wasn't ready. ( We found this to be very curious as we were one of two cars in the entire parking lot.) Also, we were told, after we arrived, that the rate would be $81 for the night. When we protested, the clerk honored the $65 rate we were quoted and gave us a different room. The room she gave us was big enough, and was a king room. The carpet was worn, but clean. The bathtub did not have a working stopper, so I had to use one of the two washcloths we were given to stop up the drain in the tub. Also, the tub was stained and black in the bottom, and there were long black hairs on my towel. The faucets in the tub were corroded and streaked with calcium deposits. The bed was clean, but the room was musty. The one positive thing I can say about this motel is that the desk clerk was very nice and friendly. Drive a few miles further and stay in Alpine, where we found excellent hotels!
