We stayed at the Thunderbird Hotel for two nights in April. It is what it is: an old motel refitted as retro-west-texas-chic. Still, it is a motel, which means it is located on a busy road that runs through Marfa with an active train track behind and the office and “lounge” located across the road. Clean rooms and comfortable beds. Pool is a bit exposed for my liking. Fairly priced. You CAN walk to the restaurants and Judd Foundation sites (but not to Chinati) still, I might have preferred the Hotel Paisano for its more central location. Also, by the time we reached Marfa after eight days in the Big Bend area, the whole hipster thing seemed really out of place in West Texas (and some of our best firends live in Williamsburg, Brooklyn!). I think Judd would NOT be pleased by all he hath wrought.
