“What a treat!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2013

The Paisano Hotel was such a delight! I stayed in one of the rooms with a college friend and our two small dogs (they allow pets!) and had the best time. It's pretty much the only real hotel right in town so you can walk to almost all the galleries and shops - there is even a gallery in the hotel. Everyone who works here was so kind and welcoming and there are so many great spots to sit around and enjoy the fireplace (or fire pits outside), the fountain, grab a cocktail or dinner, etc. True the restaurant is only open for dinner but the food is great and the have live music some nights.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone, we had the best time!

Room Tip: All the rooms are going to be quiet and there are a couple that have really nice balconies, and a fe...

This is a wonderful and beautiful hotel. Great lobby and shops to poke into. Comfortable rooms with a warm feel. I had a terrace, but it was too cold to sit out. Great front desk and affordable. I stayed in 224, over the courtyard. If you stay in the wings, the thermostats are outside, which could be a problem on cold nights.
There is a nice lounge with a piano and a quiet bar.

Our family, including a 5 year old and a 3 year old, enjoyed our recent stay at The Hotel Paisano. Our room, which included a kitchen and living room space with fold out couch, was spacious and comfortable. The room included two necessary details of a good hotel: clean, comfy linens and towels. The bathroom appeared to be recently renovated. New fixtures and tile, etc. It felt clean. Overall, the room was both well appointed and gave us the privacy we requested.

The hotel is an older one, so don't expect mod design or a hip style. It could use a slight refresher in the carpet and color scheme...but I'm highly sensitive to design. My husband wasn't bothered by it at all. More importantly, the hotel has maintained its look and feel as a West Texas gem and we appreciate this sense of integrity.

The patio and lobby area of the hotel are terrific for lounging. Enormous longhorn cattle and bison adorn the walls. We sat in front of the fire, played cards and dominos with the kids and sipped gin and tonics in the evenings. (Shirley temples for the kids) It was a delight!

The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The maid service was prompt and detailed. If you are a urban dweller, fast, with high expectation of 5 star service....this is not your hotel. But if you don't mind carrying your own bags up a couple flights of stairs, and you appreciate the film Giant, and wandering about town...The Hotel Paisano is a marvelous place to stay for a couple nights.

The hotel's location is perfect for walking about the town of Marfa, browsing the galleries and shops. Love the old courthouse (go to the top and take in the expansive view).

DINING in Marfa:
The Food Shark is a popular food trailer. Long lines! We preferred Fat Lyle's (located across the road from El Cosmico). Fried brussel sprouts and bleu cheese over french fries. curry fries. Salty, rich and yum. Jett's Grill (located in the Hotel Paisano) is a fun spot for dining and drinks as well. But they only serve after 5pm. My one complaint of the hotel, they don't serve breakfast or lunch. You can walk around the corner to Squeeze but it's tiny and crowded when the town is occupied with tourists. (the amazing chocolate and almond croissants are worth the wait!)

Checkout Padres for bar food and games (shuffle board, air hockey, etc.). It was cold and windy for us but on a nice day, one could linger here.

IMPORTANT NOTE: MAKE RESERVATION FOR JUDD ART AND DINING
call to reserve a spot to tour Chinati Foundation, etc.
also, Maiyas and Cochineal are small restaurants, so book in advance.
we didn't make ours in advance and were unable to dine at either. next time!

The Hotel Paisano is a nice place, not super fancy, but nice enough. Beautiful architecture and grounds and the restaurant food is very good. The rooms are small, but the beds are extra comfortable. The staff was not super friendly, but unfortunately most of the Marfa locals were not. This town is marketed like crazy for tourists, but tourists not welcome-so we felt. Whatever the case, it's a cool town and worth visiting at least once. This hotel is in a good location and I would recommend it.

Don't miss checking out the Marfa lights. It's not a major light show like one might expect, but it's still worth checking out, if anything you get a view of the sky unlike any other-the milky way was visible! Breathtaking.

Marfa Prada is actually 37 miles outside of Marfa in a town called Valentine-totally worth the drive, just don't ask the hotel front desk clerk for information she acts puts out-only real complaint.

We were really excited to stay at the Hotel Paisano, and it was exactly what we expected! The lady at check-in was incredibly welcoming and helpful in letting us select a room that fit our needs. The hotel is really unique and still holds its historic feel while not feeling dated or worn. The bathrooms could use an update, but they were as expected for a historic hotel. If you're coming to Marfa, definitely stay here!

My husband and I , along with our son and his fiance arrived on New Year's Day.
The staff was friendly and we were able to check in early for our two rooms.
Not a lot was open, but we were able to visit a few shops and enjoy the hotel.
Fire in the lobby was so enjoyable. We did drive to Alpine for dinner, but it was a short drive and we stopped and viewed the MArfa lights on the way back.
We spent a day in Big Bend and upon our return we enjoyed Jett's resturaunt.
Great bar and the food wasvery good. Atmosphere was enjoyable.

Rooms were comfortable. We were on mezzanine. Bathrooms were small, but not a problem for us.
Loved the historic hotel. Would definitely go back !

Room Tip: Liked mezzanine but have not stayed in another location

We stayed here Wed and Thanksgiving day with our two small dogs (yes, the hotel is dog friendly - there is an additional charge of $20 per night per dog). The drive to Marfa along highway 17 through Ft. Davis is very pretty. The rooms provide comfortable beds with high quality linens - they are small but work well with bedside tables, and our mezzanine room had a nice patio with small fireplace. The courtyard is equally lovely and a great place to hang out/relax. Hotel staff are courteous and helpful - rooms are clean. Shopping at the hotel shops is interesting and novel. The Jett Grill serves dinner (see separate review) and we took advantage of a TG day buffet serving from 2 - 5 pm.
