Owner description: Mysterious dancing lights ("ghost lights") in the sky over Marfa after dark.
Reviewed March 14, 2013

Someone went to great expense and time to provide the public with a lovely building and educational experience for learning about not only the Marfa Lights but also local history, geography and flora of the area.

There are several stations around the property that offer local information. They are not only interesting, but a good way to stretch your legs and get a little exercise.

In the main building there are restrooms, information and photographs of the Mystery Lights, and even mounted binoculars.

This is a very well-done stop and definitely worth your time. Sadly, we were there midday, so we didn't get to try seeing the mystery lights.

The Marfa lights are for real, they being seen for 100 of years.
There's a highway about 20 miles from the viewing area, and yes you can see the headlights from cars, but they are easy to tell.
The best time to see the lights are in the summer time and when the sky was clear during the day.
The heat of the day will heat up the crystal that is in some of the rocks, and when the sun goes down the crystal will start to cool down which cause the heat to come out of the crystal rock in balls of light.
Look up in the mountains you will see them best.

Fueled with excitement and high expectations we went to the viewing area to see the famous Marfa Lights. I was told reliably that everyone sees them! It's not like you have to believe in God or anything.... Well, I saw lights, definitely I saw lights, but I truly believe they were the headlights of cars. I was not impressed. However, the stars really do shine bright in Texas. The sky in Marfa is magnificent and that in itself made the trip worthwhile.

It's just a little stop in the road with a public bathroom and some free telescopes from the observation deck. Definitely worth stopping off or driving to if you find yourself nearby in the evening. We saw one mystery light when we were there and it was pretty exciting. It's a no frills place but really fun.

The only benefit of going here if you drive by or are in Marfa is that the night sky is great and there is a bathroom. The lights you see are not worth it. Go to wikipedia for the truth about them
