I finally had the opportunity to visit the American Wind Power Center (Windmill Museum) and it was amazing! They have some windmills set up outside including a massive, modern turbine, and a huge building crammed full of displays. They have everything arranged with signs to explain the type and origin. They've even set up a few "scenes" including examples of a grain mill, and several wagons, including a real Chuck Wagon.
I highly recommend a trip here if you are interested in the history of wind power. It's very inexpensive. Don't miss their massive mural painted on the walls of their banquet room!

the Windmill was a important item to have on the farm and most still have one when the juice is not working at the ones that have to have power. You will see windmills that were working on many west Texas farms.
you can see the park where Stubbs bar-bque is at on the way.

Windmills! Who knew? So many amazing speciments of windmills from the mid-1800's to the current day. We stumbled on the American Wind Power Center by accident - somehow our hotel did not carry brochures about it. This is an interesting lesson about a little known, little considered, aspect of American history. People interested in the mechanical, technical aspects of wind power will love the displays. Great place for people of all ages.

Great museum - very informative and many exhibits of all types and sizes. We attended a wedding here - outdoor ceremony and reception inside the large hall with a huge mural depicting early west - beautifully done.

This was time well spent. The diversity of historic windmills was awesome. The display was well laid out and you could spend as much time as you wish. Personnel at the front desk were very helpful and had additional knowledge when requested. The gift shop was also a treat, with some wonderful decorative "wind mobiles" for your patio or garden.

A great experience.
