“2nd Stay”

Lovely hosts, beautiful home. The hosts always make you feel welcome, there's always treats, homemade cookies, brownies at the entry table. They will always be happy to share a glass of wine or beer with you and talk about your day. The Lonestar room was very roomy, the bed so very comfortable and the sheets were so exquisite we bought a set. They showed us the honeymoon suite, and Llano room, they're gorgeous....next time! My husband and I recommend the Woodrow House B&B.

Room Tip: Even if the website says full...call and check, they do have last minute cancellations on occassion.

We had reason to visit Lubbock and asked our friends at the Katy House B&B in Smithviille, Texas, for a recommendation. Wow! They couldn't have given us a better one. The hosts are very gracious, our room was immaculate and comfortable. Next time we'll try to get into that Caboose. What a fun experience that would be!

Our main reason for visiting Lubbock was The Buddy Holly Centre, and to be honest, we weren't expecting much more, but how wrong we were !!!
Granted as the previous review has said, the house is on a major street, and there are roadworks going on to upgrade the highway/junction, but this did not cause us any problems at all, and certainly didn't disturb our sleep !!
We booked the 1950's room as we were visiting Lubbock for the Buddy Holly Centre !!
The house was very homely and inviting and was more like a 5* place !!
We wanted for nothing, and although there wasn't a fridge in our room, Dawn and David allow guests to use their fridge, so no problems there !!
In the back garden there is the Caboose !! a good size pool, with hot tub !!! and a sun patio, along with a gazebo for those wanting shade.
There was an old fashioned pop machine, which gave guests free coke and soda, which when it was 103 degrees was most welcome !!
On arrival at the B&B we met up with another couple staying there, who were from Derbyshire !!
We then spent that afternoon in the pool chatting and finding out about how much there is to do and see in Lubbock.
Dawn and her friend Karla then arranged that the following day, before we went to the Buddy Holly Centre, they would show us round the schools that he went to.
We are so grateful for Dawn and Karla for giving up their time to show us Buddy's Elementary, Middle and the High Schools, and as the children had a finished for the summer holidays, we actually got to go into the schools and, especially at Lubbock High School, we got to walk on the stage where Buddy had performed and saw his classroom. A big thank-you also to Mr Woody for showing us round Lubbock High !!!
We then we on to do the Buddy Holly Centre at our leisure. From there we picked up the information sheet which tells you where other key locations are, we went to visit his grave, which was very easy to find.
Whilst in Lubbock we ate at Tripple J's, which is next door to the Buddy Holly Centre and then at Cafe J. Both were very good meals, and in Tripple J's my husband had his first Texas Steak and it was worth every penny !!
On further chatting with Dawn and David over breakfast on the day we were leaving, we were undecided which way we were going to drive to start heading back towards Atlanta, but thanks again for the advice, we drove up to Amarillo and visited the Palo Duro Canyon and then drove along Route 66 !!!!!
Dawn has promised us that she is going to look into doing some sort of Buddy Holly Tour as I'm sure others would love to experience what we did !! So Good Luck !!
Thanks again for a fantastic time in Lubbock x

We were looking forward staying at this place. Good news at first the owners and family members are friendly and our room was nicely set up and clean. The downside we experienced is that the B&B is directly located at a major street/highway which makes the stay noisy. The room comes with complementary ear plugs though. Breakfast was OK but not really a highlight.

I've had the fortunate experience to stay at the Woodrow House on more than one occasion. The hospitality, the peacefulness and even the friendly staff are second to none. The house is clean and comfortable, the breakfasts are hot and fresh and the opportunity to meet people from all over the world is fantastic!
Fortunately for me, they have a pet policy and I was allowed to share my experience with my constant companion, a white lab I have raised from a puppy. The experience, the food, the conversation and the rooms were wonderful and I will most definitely be staying there again!

Room Tip: I hear there is a secret cave on the premises somewhere.

This is great B&B! We stayed in
The caboose.!Wow, very different and unique. Great location. Only thing I think that the owners need to do is to update the older TV. David and Dawn are really nice hosts. We will be back for sure.
