“Good prices on decent BBQ”
Reviewed March 4, 2014

I've eaten at Chisholm Trail BBQ several times. The BBQ is decent but nowhere near as good as Black's or Kreutz. They have a large selection of food, including chicken fajitas, but I recommend sticking with the BBQ. In my experiences, the service has not been friendly - certainly not the small town Texas charm you would expect. The drive through is convenient but slow.
Unless you're looking for a less expensive option, go with Blacks or Kreutz for the BBQ that Lockhart is famous for.

“Great value”
Reviewed February 24, 2014

The BBQ is very good and well cooked. They have a drive thru window, which you will never find less than 4 cars in at a time. The service is somewhat friendly with self-serve sides. The best thing about this place is You have a lot to choose from and they don't charge outrageous prices. I would recommend the sausage and chicken here. The plates come with your choice of three sides and some great homemade bread.

“Disgusting Restaurant - Terrible BBQ”
Reviewed December 30, 2013

My wife and I took a trip to Lockhart TX since we heard it was THE place for real Texas BBQ. Based on TripAdvisor reviews, we decided to try to the Chisholm Trail BBQ. What a major disappointment. It was so dark and had a grimy look and feel. Food is served in Styrofoam containers with cheap, and I mean cheap plastic forks, knives and spoons. We tried all of the meats on the menu; pork ribs - extremely salty, could not eat it; brisket - too much fat, and the sausage casing was impossible to cut into with the cheap plastic knives provided. All in all it was a horrible experience. The ceiling of the place looked like it was ready to fall down and was covered in grease. Granted the food was cheap, and the beer was cold, but this place has little going for it. We will never be back.

“They do have some good things!”
Reviewed December 25, 2013

In comparison to the Black family which is my all time favorite. Chisholm have some goodness too, their prices much cheaper, they got better selection on sides, I like the broccoli salad and okra I wish they can add on sweet potatoes in the near future. I personally find their ribs too salty and their style to coat sweet sauce on the BBQ is not a win for me. Sliced Beef is abit dry. Cashier is less efficient so the Q line build up quickly. But thank you we saw something different in a good way!

“Great value, good food”
Reviewed August 8, 2013

Down home atmosphere, 10 minute wait in a cafeteria style line, but it was worth it. Good BBQ and beans and biscuit. Salad bar did not look appetizing. Amazingly inexpensive. Even though the place was buy, large dining area provided plenty of seating.
