Spent the day here and it was awesome. Be advised that they don't rent canoes anymore but they are working on fixing that. We did rent horse and went on a trail ride. The horses were all gentle and the staff was really friendly. It made the day fun.

We spent the weekend camping at Lake Livingston State Park. We went over MLK weekend and the campgrounds were about 80% full. I would recommend getting reservations early on holiday weekends or during the spring. Even in the winter the wilderness was beautiful. We stayed at Hercules Loop. We were not on the water but we could see if from our front door and the sunsets were magnificent. The sights were spaced very far apart. There are plenty of walking paths that are well maintained. We enjoyed hiking and bicycling around the whole park. There is also stable for horseback riding and during the summer months, a pool and general store are provided. The park is very well maintained, it is patrolled constantly by the camp host and by the park rangers. The check in staff was great! There are a lot of tree stumps that have not been removed from all the trees that died during the drought, but there are still plenty of trees to enjoy. If you are camping I would not suggest Pine Oaks unless everything is full. This campground is away from everything, except the stables and the sights are very close together. The only bad experience we had was the camper next to us brought a dog that they chained out and it barked constantly. I would not put this on the park just an inconsiderate camper. We will definitely go back.

Stayed here over New Year weekend. Park was clean with many good hiking trails. Staff were very friendly and helpful during our visit.

My family loves this park, especially the dogs! We live in the city, without much room for them to roam, so we take the dogs to the park regularly. Although on leashes, they can roam through the leaves and pine needles, run by the pool area and docks, enjoying the sights and smells of the forest and lake. There's a nice pool here, campgrounds, cabins, a stable, docks, boat ramps and a small store. The rangers are friendly and helpful, too.
HINT: you can go in the park after 5:00 pm for free and watch the sunset over the lake. Beautiful!

This State park is right on the banks of Lake Livingston, just south of Livingston, TX. The park has a nice day use area. It has a riding stable, a swimming pool, three boat ramps, a camp store, an observation tower, and scores of camp sites. Lake Livingston is one of the largest lakes in the state and has good fishing. It is far enough from major metropolitan areas to have smaller crowds except for MAJOR holiday weekends. A nice park and well worth the trip.
