Judge Roy Bean Museum

This is a great place to stop even if you don't know anything about Judge Roy Bean because the cactus garden is really nice to stroll through and there is a ton of tourist information and local area history information available inside. The facility, grounds, and bathrooms are big and clean! Our young kids had some room to run and play. It's free.

If you are familiar with the old west legend Judge Roy Bean, then this place will knock your socks off. If you are within a short drive of here or actually passing by on the highway, I can't fathom why a person wouldn't stop in.

Roy Bean was an interesting man who was into 'interesting' things. The buildings and furniture inside here are original, and visitors have full access them. The cactus garden was pleasant to walk around, and the scenery was breathtaking! The museum has cool artifacts. It's all free, and takes about an hour to go through.

The museum is a very good ans well planned tribute to "The Only Law West of the Pecos". The visitors' center is well laid out and has an excellent staff. The grounds have wonderful exhibits of xeriscaping. Have you ever seen a red prickly pear cactus? Have you ever considered an eclipse windmill? Just driving around the little ghost town and looking at the headstones in the cemetery. This is history, in situ no sterile "citified museum" This is exactly where all this happened. The visitors' Center restrooms are spotless and worth the side trip on their own!

Judge Roy Bean site is a credit to the state historic locations in Texas. It is well maintained, well staffed by excellent personnel and in todays world, an exception, in the fact that there is no admission charge. Well done Texas.

The staff of the Judge Roy Bean Museum are doing it right. The grounds are immaculately maintained, the staff is very friendly and can answer any question. Getting to walk into the actual building where Judge Roy dispensed justice was phenomenal. A lot of work to maintain, and they are doing it well. This visit does not take long to see everything, so it is a great and interesting rest stop for a road trip. Recommend adding this to a list of things to do when in the area.
