We stumbled upon this when searching for something to do one Saturday. The center has free admission and great aquariums for the kids and adults to see and learn about the fish in gulf. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Check out the website for details of the hatchery and other tours.

Sea Center is a combination of many things. It is a top shelf marine aquarium with many added features. In addition, Sea Center is surrounded by Redfish rearing ponds, where redfish are spawned and raised until old enough to be released into the nearby bay waters. The admission price is free. On most days, tours are given which include going behind the scene to see the hatchery were the fingerling redfish are spawned. This is a joint venture between Texas Parks & Wildlife and Dow Chemical. The aquarium starts with a view of marine life in tidal estuaries, continues through the gulf bay system, then the jetty marine life system, then the offshore platfrom marine life system, and finishes with a view of deepwater gulf marine life. This display is in a series of large aquariums that takes you from inshore waters to the deep gulf abyss. There are touch tanks with many types of marine life found here. There are walkways that take you all through the redfish raising pond area. Also, there is a nature walk. A touching bronze statue greets you at the entrance of the Sea Center. The Sea Center will both educate you and entertain you and is enjoyed by both young and old alike. The Sea Center is unique and well worth the trip there. I try to go at least once a year as it never grows tiring to visit.

We live locally and are always excited to share the Sea Center with friends, family, and visitors. There are interesting aquariums with sea critters found in the coastal environments. There's a touch tank for youngsters to have a little "hands on" activity. In addition, one can learn about the efforts to increase the fishing population along the Gulf Coast. There are great things happening here. And it's FREE! (Donations are appreciated, though.) It is a user-friendly place, handicapped accessible and strollers are fine, too. Recently read in Texas Parks and Wildlife that over 60,000 folks visit Sea Center annually. Proud of my home town!

The Sea Center is a good place to visit, especially with children. It is not large, but there are attractions for children to learn about the Gulf of Mexico and the creatures found there. There is a "touch tank" for folks of all ages. It is free and the many knowledgeable volunteers and staff are very helpful. Small gift shop is also on site. This is also a fish hatchery and you may be able to get a behind the scenes tour of that part of the center. They occasionally have a kid fish day with catch and release in the fish hatchery ponds. There is a small wildlife area adjacent to the center for viewing of seasonal wildlife.
