“Great monument!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2013 via mobile

Visited with friends from South Africa and they were surprised to see a covered wagon! Their Voortrekker museum in Pretoria (I've visited there too) also has one and the designs are nearly identical. I wonder which one came first?

Anyway, great place to spend a bit of time and learn about the Republic of Texas!

“History”

Nice just to see and to image what it was like back in those days. The monument is very clean and very cool if just coming out of the hot summer heat.

“Texas Historical Site”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2013 via mobile

The battle of San Jacinto led to Texas' independence from Mexico. That was a significant step in the U.S. becoming a nation that touched two oceans.

There are numerous markers across the coastal prairie that makes up the park. The markers identify significant events prior to and during the 17 minute battle.

The media presentation (fee) provides a wonderful depiction of the battle and is worth the time. The elevator to the top of the monument is also worth the time also. No where in the world is there an opportunity to view an industrial complex as vast as that in place along the Houston Ship Channel.

After a visit to the park, the Monument Inn is located adjacent to the park at the Lynchburg Ferry landing at the ship channel. The Inn will provide a wonderful meal of fresh seafood prepared from local catch. You can have a great day in La Porte, TX

“Star attraction....big star”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2013

We have been to Washington monument .. Similar but with a huge Texas star on the top. Also without the stress of being in Washington DC . Just drive right up to the monument pay your $4 and ride to the top.
Easy family interest. But don't rush off there is the museum and battleship to see. Drive down to the lake and see loads of wildlife including pelicans and snakes. A nice slice of Texas history

“GREAT Texas History!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 9, 2013

My family and I had a GREAT time learning more about Texas history! The staff is very knowledgable about the events surrounding the battle. The film was SPECTACULAR!!! You can actually walk or drive around to different locations on the grounds where events actually took place! The museum had some great pieces on display(swords, guns, even original clothing worn during the battle). There is an elevator that will take you to the top of the obelisk. The view was ok, but not really worth the money. This destination is MUST for anyone who claims to be a TEXAN!!!
