We went to this beach first before heading to Galveston the next day. This beach was close to our hotel and was a good cheap way to keep the kids entertained. However, the beach wasn't sandy like Galveston - there were rocks or pebbles intermixed, so it just doesn't give you that beach feel, more like a lake or something - can't really make sand castles, etc. I did like that they had the swimming areas sectioned off as it prevented my kids from going out too deep and I liked that.

Hidden gem! Absolutely clean. Very safe water for kiddos. No seaweed (Galvestion is covered in it!!) and a SWEAR the water is cleaner than Galvestion! Sand is course, and won't stick together for a Sandcastle but that's our only downside; not even complaining, just leave all those buckets and tools at home next time :)

Sylvan Beach Park has made improvements - they have a small beach where families can go, they have a nice playground and picnic area, tennis courts, a skateboard park, a bait & tackle shop, and a very nice fishing pier. There is a small charge to go onto the pier, and they have limited hours during the week.

So much better since it was destroyed in Hurricane Ike. Glad we gave it another chance.

I like this park, When we went it was clean, of course is up to the visitors to keep it that way, There are plenty of garbage cans, plenty of parking lot space. This is a man made beach, so don't be disappointed, is great for younger kids because you are not really allowed to go to far in the sea.
There are plenty of areas where people can set up and bring anything you need to enjoy the day, grills, etc. There is not a fee to park, there is a fee however to go in the pier and fish. I think it has been a great improvement from the way it was before and people in the area should take advantage of it. I don't always want to drive to Galveston for a few hours in the beach and this place does the trick. Kemah it's very nice if you just want to look at the water and take a stroll on the boardwalk, have a nice meal or enjoy the rides and the entertainment. Can't really compare. If you are in a budget like a lot of us , Sylvan Beach is a great place to go and spend the day.
