“Great Sandwich”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2011

I had a chopped BBQ sandwich and my husband had the sliced. They were both delightful--as a matter of fact we stayed in town later than we wanted to the following day to pick up some BBQ by the pound to bring home. The sweet tea was fantastic. The staff that runs the place were both helpful and polite. I enjoy bbq from places like: Luling city Market, Coopers (brisket), and Granzins...Each of these is different from the other but delicious. I would put Spykes "up there" with these places:) Great find in Kingsland!

“Don't Miss Spyke's BBQ”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 28, 2007

There's a lot of fuss made about Cooper's BBQ in Llano, but Spyke's in Kingsland has it beat. For starters, you can actually get in and find a seat, and at lunch, they actually had everything on the menu. Not so with Coopers.

We had ribs, chopped beef sandwich and chicken, and would put each up against any in the state. The smoked chicken had the smoke flavor all the way through, not just on the skin. Nice kick, but not so much that the kids were put off. The ribs--big and plentiful--with 4 or 5 per serving, were tasty all the way through. Nice rub on them as well.

The chopped beef was moist, tender, and served in big slices...not the overly chopped stuff you sometimes get.

While it was available, no one felt the need to use the BBQ sauce--the smoked flavor and rub on the meats were enough. Side orders included a decent potato salad, cole slaw, and awesome beans. The fixins bar had the typical sliced onions, jalapenos (sliced) and white bread.

Servings were good sized; service was friendly and unhurried.
Definitely will return.
