“Great burgers and fries!”
Review of The Back Porch

The Back Porch
Ranked #3 of 53 Restaurants in Kilgore
Certificate of Excellence
Description: Serving our community for over 25 years. Jackie and Vicki have built a legend at The Back Porch. The Clayton's have owned the Back Porch since 1990 but the history goes back to the 1960"s when the business was a pool hall owned by the infamous Harry Crow. Starting off with burgers being their specialty they use only fresh unfrozen meat, and the menu was originally very simple; big and little burgers and large homemade fries. Now the menu has a large variety of delicious entrees to choose from. GREAT FOOD NOT FAST FOOD Complimentary beans and hush puppies while you wait for your meal. The Clayton's were born and raised in Kilgore...just good down-home people serving the community they love. Winner of 2015 EAST TEXAS MUSIC Awards for BEST VENUE with live music every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.

“Great burgers and fries!”

We had excellent service with a cheerful friendly waitress! Burgers Were large fresh and cooked to our desire! Skip the curly fries but regular ones were yummy! Great to include this with a day at the oil museum and the rangerette museum!

“Love this place!”
Reviewed February 21, 2013 via mobile

The food is always wonderful. The staff is always super friendly and on top of things. It's rare I have to ask for a refill. They have free beans and hush puppies. They them before your meal comes. Prices are reasonable.

“Good friendly restaurant”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

Ate dinner here one night while in town for business. Had a really good burger and I ordered a small dinner salad instead of fries. They were both good. My dinner companion had a grilled chicken breast with cheese and mushrooms and a gravy over it and he said it was good as well. They were having a special on fried green tomatoes so I ordered them as an appetizer. They came out quick, and hot, but a bit disappointing. They were very heavily battered ( almost to the point of being thick as a biscuit) and it totally covered up the taste of the tomatoe slice. They were served with ranch dressing and were okay, but I would have preferred them battered much thinner so you could taste the inside. That was my only complaint.
The service was good, and the people - including the other customers - were friendly. You could tell that a lot of the people in there knew each other. While that can make you feel uncomfortable in some places - like they are all looking at you, "the stranger in the midst" - that was the opposite of the atmosphere here. Everyone greeted each other going in and out, table stopping to say hello. And the two women at the table behind us asked us if we wanted to stay and play in the dominoe tournament coming up in a few mins.
The place is homey, and warm, and definately a place to go when in Kilgore.

“Kilgore Hot Spot”
Reviewed December 21, 2012

The food was pretty good, but not too complicated. It's pretty much like most "burger bars." I like the tall beers and the occasional music. The outside area was nice. I have been there a few times. I took some relatives from Illinois there and they really enjoyed it too. One big down side is that there wasn't enough bathroom facilities. It was ridiculous. They were supposed to fix that, but I have not been back to check.

“Friendly & Fun”
Reviewed November 7, 2012

The Back Porch is the place for good food and musical entertainment in the city of Kilgore. They offer indoor and outside seating with a fun and friendly atmosphere. The service is consistently good and the food is fresh and tasty. My favorite is their hamburgers, though they offer a varied menu. They feature great local entertainers on the patio or if you prefer there is plenty of seating inside.
