We have made several trips to La Fours for seafood, and it's usually delicious. I love fried shrimp and have eaten shrimp in hundreds of places. The best fried shrimp in the world can be found along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, so it's a bit surprising that this family-owned restaurant in Kerrville, Texas -- which is many miles from the coast -- can consistently serve up such world-class fried shrimp. The shrimp are just the right size and f-r-e-s-h; the batter is light and always crispy; and it's served piping hot. The fries are also world class: crispy on the outside, hot and tender on the inside, just a little on the large side without being too big. Clearly this is not health food, but it's worth the indulgence. They also have excellent gumbo, frog legs, and crawfish. The salad isn't much, but a nice light start to your meal. The service is casual, and the atmosphere is Cajun down-home -- nothing fancy. You can dine al fresco on the back deck, overlooking the Guadalupe River.
