“World-Class Fried Shrimp”
Reviewed August 25, 2014

We have made several trips to La Fours for seafood, and it's usually delicious. I love fried shrimp and have eaten shrimp in hundreds of places. The best fried shrimp in the world can be found along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, so it's a bit surprising that this family-owned restaurant in Kerrville, Texas -- which is many miles from the coast -- can consistently serve up such world-class fried shrimp. The shrimp are just the right size and f-r-e-s-h; the batter is light and always crispy; and it's served piping hot. The fries are also world class: crispy on the outside, hot and tender on the inside, just a little on the large side without being too big. Clearly this is not health food, but it's worth the indulgence. They also have excellent gumbo, frog legs, and crawfish. The salad isn't much, but a nice light start to your meal. The service is casual, and the atmosphere is Cajun down-home -- nothing fancy. You can dine al fresco on the back deck, overlooking the Guadalupe River.

“Family style cooking at a reasonable price”
Reviewed August 2, 2014

Fried food seems to be highest on the agenda here, but that being said, my fried oysters were very good. No one should leave hungry, as the plates are really full of food. Not the place to eat if you are on a diet. Nothing fancy about this place - it´s one big room with old-fashioned tables and chairs scattered about. Appears to be family owned as advertised. Would eat here again.

Food is pretty good; for some reason, it used to be better. Service is fine — what you find almost everywhere in Kerrville.

“Husband's Selection for Father's Day Lunch”
Reviewed June 14, 2014

My husband made a good choice for his Father's Day lunch. We received LaFour's usual good, friendly service. We were greeted when we entered, and allowed to select our own table.

Dave loves mushrooms, so he selected the fried mushroom appetizer. He followed the mushrooms with their crab cakes, accompanied by fries, cole slaw, hush puppies, and pinto beans. Naturally, he had a Shiner Bock beer to drink! He reported that it was all delicious. I, on the other hand, am a shrimp-a-holic. The only decision is how to have them -- fried, boiled, or grilled. This time I ordered the boiled shrimp, with Cole slaw, fries, and black-eye peas. My drink was Chablis, which went well with the shrimp. I was very happy with my meal.

Their special today was Fried Alligator, but I cannot pass up shrimp. I have heard it is quite good.

LaFour's continues to be our favorite go-to place for seafood in Kerrville.

“Cajun Comfort Food”
Reviewed April 5, 2014 via mobile

We had fried oysters and fried alligator. Both were well-prepared and quote tasty. Significantly, for fried foods, neither had any hint of greasiness. The service was generally good, although we apparently got caught in some kind of server vacuum at the beginning of the Saturday evening rush; no dessert pitch and slow delivery of the check.
