A group of us stayed at this resort the last week in April. This is an older place. The rooms are a bit run down but very clean. The carpet in the hall ways are very worn looking. but loved the red clay tiles in the rooms. We upgraded to a king exec. room. The only difference in in our room and another was it was very large. lots of empty space. There was a mini refrigerator that kept our drinks only luke cool. The balcony was VERY small. So no sitting outside in the evening after a long ride. Was a little disappointed in the room. The pool area was great. Lots of places for us to sit around and visit. LOVED the deco in the lobby area!!! very beautiful...
We had the breakfast buffet coupons and enjoyed it very much!! the food was good and hot...We didn't visit the bar so can not comment on that.
Would I visit this resort again...Yes...the best part of it is its location....easy in and out and close to the downtown area and many of the resturants.

Last week we spent four nights at the YO in Kerrville on a leisure trip. Here's why I'd choose it again:
* Location, location, location. Easy on-off access to I-10, 1.8 miles to downtown Kerrville, and walkable distance to shops and dining.
* Rate. Surprisingly low rate through online travel providers.
* Full service dining in their very nice Branding Iron restaurant, which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
* Staff is friendly and courteous. They greet you warmly when you encounter them. Front desk staff are great.
* Very nice pool area, surrounded by many chaise lounges, allowing you to soak up the Texas sun or even sit in the shade on the deck.
* Nice lounge - Elm Waterhole Saloon. Live entertainment on weekends. The happy hour grub was substantial; included mini-sliders one night, chicken fingers, pulled pork mini-sandwiches.
* Historic hotel - built in 1984 as a tribute to the Y O Ranch outside of Kerrville which has been in operation since 1883. The decor is of the 1880s period and features a lot of native stone and 9' wide chandeliers.
* Gorgeous lobby with western theme touches, including massive standing stuffed bear.
* Nice gift shop with western trinkets and sundries.
* Free parking.
* Spacious sleeping rooms, most with small decks or balconies.
* Nice meeting rooms (although I didn't use one, this is a great venue for a meeting.)

Having said the "good stuff", here would be my suggestions to management:
* Mini-refrigerators would be great in the sleeping rooms, and there is plenty of room. This would be a great help to those staying more than overnight.
* The soft goods need updating. Redo the linens and especially the bedspreads.
* Redo the bathrooms. This is the main thing. Nice to have two sinks but they are vintage 80s.
* Replace the hallway carpets. They're ready to "bite the dust"!
* Replace the room numbers. They need it!
* Paint the front door - it is the first thing you see.

As you can see, these are all cosmetic issues. I've heard this hotel is part of the 1859 Historic Hotels group which also owns the Crockett and Menger in San Antonio. We also stayed at the Crockett and it is stunning. This property could be and should be the showpiece of the Hill Country. I hope renovations are in the near future.

Enjoy your stay at the Y.O. -- we did!

Room Tip: You might prefer an upstairs view overlooking the pool.

My husband and I have stayed at the YO Hotel several times, and always enjoyed the excellent ambiance and general quality of the accomodations. This trip, however, produced different results. Before I list our disappointments, I must say that when we reported problems to the front desk manager, we were treated extremely well. She wrote down each complaint, and then gave us coupons for free breakfasts and comped our second night's stay. We had great experiences in the restaurant, the bar (reasonably priced drinks and great bar snacks) and the pool area, and are likely to give the YO one more chance when we next visit Kerrville.
We were assigned a room in a section that needs significant updating. The exterior door has duct tape on it and doesn't close properly. The YO-logo carpet runner in the hallway needs refurbishing. It smells strongly of carpet deodorizer powder. Our room did not have the 2 extra pillows we had requested, nor did it have a luggage rack. Those items, however, were delivered shortly after we called the front desk. One of the lights in the bathroom seemed to be burned out, but the young maintenance man who came to change the bulb touched it and it lit up. That light, however, continued to come on and go off intermittently, making us consider the possibility of an electrical short. The toilet seat looked very worn, and because it had not been periodically tightened, came loose and disconnected. Additionally, the bathroom has 2 toilet paper holders, each of which had less than a half roll of paper. Unlike other reviewers, we DO like the tile floors and ours were clean. The bed was very comfortable, and the pillows adequate.
My hope is that the hotel is undergoing gradual renovation, and that we were unlucky enough to get a room in the most tired section. However, we saw no work crews at any of the other buildings. I recommend that potential guests ask whether they are being given an updated room.

For 10+ years the YO has served as the location for our annual art show in Kerrville. We are the oldest professional art organiation in Texas, the Texas Wild Bunch. Our show this year was benefiting the Salvation Armys Boy and Girl Clubs of Kerrville; the hotel staff bend over backwards to help us (as they always do), we take over the lobby and ballrooms displaying art and hosting a "Quick Draw" with a live band and auction. The 3 day event went without a hitch, easy for artist to load and unload into ballrooms, it's great to work with this staff and the facilities and food are GREAT!

The Y O Ranch Hotel was the perfect location for the CSCA National. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very nice and the restaurant was great. If I am ever back in this area I would defiantly stay at the Y O Ranch again.

I still cannot say enough about the excellent service and staff at the Y. O.. Hosting a dog show is no easy feat but the Y. O. did it with ease. Everyone is so attuned to customer service there. This was my fourth stay over the past year and I saw the same faces which speaks well of the organization. I plan to make the Y. O. a place that I'll visit again. Thank you to Fay and her staff for making our event wonderful!!!

Room Tip: Great rooms on the bottom floors if you are traveling with a pet.
