Owner description: The Museum of Western Art, formerly the Cowboy Artist of America Museum, is open Tuesday - Saturday 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. It is located 65 miles NW of San Antonio just off I-10, and is a short drive from downtown Kerrville. Larger-than-life style western bronzes dot the exterior grounds. There are several galleries inside (allow 90 minutes to go through), showcasing artwork by craftsmen and women who have devoted their artistic career to preserving the legends of the American West. Young children will enjoy the Journey West Children's Gallery, a hands-on interpretive experience of life on a wagon train. A small museum store sells prints and original art done by local artists along with other western memorabilia. An extensive western research library is on site as well. An annual art sale and exhibition is held each fall.

Passing through Kerrville we stumbled across this museum. It was a great little find. The western art was beautiful. Cleve was so nice and helpful to us. If you have a little time to walk through it...by all means it is worth the $6 per person.

I am not much of a museum fan, but this one was so much fun and so interesting. We were the only ones there on the morning that we visited and the lovely and friendly docent gave us a personal guided tour along with a lot of stories and information. I loved the paintings and sculptures and the saddle display. It all brought back memories of my childhood and the ranch that my grandparents lived on. I would definitely recommend this museum to anyone who visits Kerrville.

This was our second visit to the museum and both were very different. We enjoy all of the paintings, sculptures, and other artifacts they have that depict the history of the West.

Thank you so much for taking time to review your visit here. It's so nice to have repeat visitors!

You are correct, we do change exhibits through the year so we're pleased you were able to see part of our fabulous permanent collection of paintings and bronzes. Following our Spring Round-Up Exhibition and Sale on April 26, that collection of artwork will remain up until May 24 - another reason to come back!

Again, we appreciate your patronage. We do have a Facebook page if you'd like to stay in touch with us for updates, and you can sign up for our newsletter on our website.

Sincerely,

Andy Simon

We thoroughly enjoyed the sculptures, art and photography, artifacts, and historical furnishings, including stage coaches, saddles, a library, and hall of fame portraits. On this visit, one room was devoted to paintings of native American scenes, another room devoted to work by one artist, and another featured work by a variety....the sculptures displayed down the center of each room created different textures and views to make each room even more interesting. We had difficulty picking out favorites as there were so many. The displays change occasionally, so repeat visits for those in the area would be desirable. Volunteers and staff are available to answer questions. If you have an interest in the west, the development of the country from pioneers to cowboys, or cattle, horses,& buffalo the displays capture them well.

Thank cjds

Thank you! How nice of you to write such a nice review of our Museum! You traveled a long way from Georgia, so we're glad you had a taste of the old west while you were here.

Thank you for your words of appreciation on our collection here. We are so fortunate to have the works of so many talented artists contained in such a beautiful venue.

We're just now starting to "branch out" now as spring approaches, and our grounds will be particularly stunning in another month or so. If you ever get back this way, we hope you'll stop in.

All the best for a wonderful spring and summer. Thanks again.

Sincerely,

Andy Simon
