I live in Houston, which is only a 40 minute drive from Kemah, so I wasn't too thrilled about a "vacation" that close to home. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised! We were there for two nights, three days. There was more to do than we had time for, and didn't do many of the things we had planned on doing.

We arrived on a Thursday night. On Thursdays in the summer they have "Rock the Dock" night, with a live band out on the huge open patio-type area. This area is where the balconies of the hotel overlooks, plus there are many restaurants and shops lined along the perimeter. That night there was a TON of people out, dancing and having a great time. There is a huge water area for the kids to enjoy - and our two (ages 4 & 5) LOVED it. They pretty much fell into bed that night they were so tired!

Friday we rode "The Beast", which is a big speedboat, it probably seats about 40 people. I think it was $12 for adults and $9 for kids. The girls loved it. They play really loud music and the people who are on the boat are encouraged to dance in their seats. A LOT of fun! Then we went to the hotel pool for a short swim before nap time (much needed by the adults as well!) Then we hit the carnival rides, the arcade games (all littered up and down the boardwalk area) and then back to the open area at night for another band.

I would highly recommend this hotel - it's a beautiful hotel right in the middle of everywhere to be in Kemah. Plus it's only about 20 minutes from Galveston Beach and the new Schlitterbahn, which is where we didn't make it that weekend. Maybe next time!!

This is a lovely place, with sumptous rooms and delightful private balconies where you can feel the wind from the bay and enjoy! The bathrooms are huge, and the beds are so very comfortable. The people who work here are very nice and friendly, and treat you very well. The only down side to staying here is that when we stayed there, they had a band playing at the fountain, and it was very loud. Fortunately, it closed by eleven p.m., and all was blissfully quiet once again. I imagine the younger set would find this a plus, as well as the inflatable movie screen that played a movie the next night.
There isn't an in house restaurant, but this was no problem, as the hotel is just steps away from several, notably the wonderful Cadillac Bar, where the Mexican food is deliciously prepared. There are also shops all around the hotel, and a coffee shop that is open fairly early, although the beignets were disgusting (New Orleans is the only place for these of course).
Also figuring out where the entrance to off load suitcases was an adventure in itself, be sure to ask for directions from the front desk when making reservations, so you don't go in circles like we did (you have to drive to the second floor of the parking garage for that entrance).
Everything was very clean. One regret was that they don't have refrigerators, and they don't allow coolers, but of course you can get ice from the ice machine.
I don't have children, but they all seemed to be having a wonderful time playing in the fountains. At night there are many different colored lights outside on the Boardwalk, and it's very pretty.

My family including my husband and two children 7 and 9 spent the last part of Spring Break at the Boardwalk Inn.
The kids originally wanted to go back to Galveston so we had to win them over with Kemah and we did! They loved it. It was great having a balcony overlooking all the action. And even though the hotel is a little pricey, the preferred seating at the restuarants was worth the extra money! We were VIP's the whole weekend. We'll go back next year! We also told our friends about it even though we considered selfishly keeping it a secret.

Spent all day at the Boardwalk on Monday, December 26, 2005. Had a great time and O.K. food at the Flying Dutchman. We expeirenced long waits though,(45 minutes), explained by the wait staff due to staff shortage.
We found this excuse hard to beleive though. Wouldn't Landry's plan for a holiday Monday well in advance?

Kemah is a world of it's own. There are plenty of rides, including Joes Boardwalk Beast (fun) games and shops. You can stroll along the bay front board walk after a great meal at one of the many great restraunts. There is always live intertainment of bands, jugglers, or seasonal spook houses . The Inn provides a front row view to just watch it all from your very own deck! Also a great hidden pool after the crowd has left. Don't miss the stingray shop where you can feed live sting rays and pet them too!
