“Quaint relic...but?”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 12, 2014

The museum is worth the trip but has much room for improvement. There are 4 total floors, including basement exhibits, and much to be seen which is very interesting. The problem is the information and legend cards are dated, yellowing, in small print, and in need of replacing. Certainly the information would have been more easily read if the lighting was either improved; on a couple floors more of the existing lights need to be turned on. Surprisingly, the basement displays had the best lighting for viewing. The desk host was very hospitable and provided enlightening backgrounds of period factoids.

“Trip back in time”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 17, 2013

What a great collection of history! My wife and. I thoroughly enjoyed our tour here. I enjoyed the local history and was i pressed on how much wealth used to exist in the town of Jefferson for them to have collected such a treasure trove.

Great way to pass an afternoon

“Do not miss it.”

Great museum, particularly good for a town the size of Jefferson. Make sure you visit the model train display behind the museum.

“wonderful museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2013

If the Civil War and early Texas is exciting to you then this museum is for you !! Four floors of the old Federal Courthouse with so much of the "steamboat era". A dress worn and donated by Lady Bird Johnson in the White House and a beautiful Magnolia Tree planted by Lady Bird from a cutting off a Magnolia from the White House that was originally planted by Andrew Jackson. A separate building for a model train exhibit that is worth the trip in itself. A must see if visiting Jefferson. Walk across the street to Jay Gould's private rail car. History everywhere !!

This was a 3 story building plus a basement full of vintage antiques. We spent a lot of time looking at everything.
