The Carriage House Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #2 of 28 Jefferson B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 9, 2013

Carriage House B&B is in a quaint 1920s home, but provided all the comforts and amenities we wanted, along with the cheerful and friendly presence of Stephanie and Tom. We chose Carriage House among numerous other highly-regarded B&Bs and Inns, based on the TripAdvisor reviews and are glad we did. Location is convenient on a main but not too busy street. The yard and public spaces are beautiful, as was our room. The Diamond Bessie Room was lovely and comfortable. The A/C kept the room nice and cool. The bathroom was spotless and in all respects up-to-date. Charming little touches abound on the property, like the sitting areas under fans on the large porch and comfy chairs on the central patio. We had to skip the Breakfast because of our early departure; but the morning Coffee was superb. My wife and I were very satisfied with our stay at Carriage House and we consider it a great value for fine accommodations in Jefferson. We will be back again!

Room Tip: The cottage rooms at the back have private entrances that you may find more convenient.

Our stay was a great battery recharger. The room was elegant (Diamond Bessie), the brownies a lovely touch, and everything prepared for our late arrival. We attention to detail made this a great get-a-away. Stephanie (our host) was on top of every detail and it made the stay all the nicer. Some of the details - more than enough evening refreshments, extra insect repellant to protect during the evening walks, lavish room decor, private cottages, beautiful grounds, a large porch with a couple's swing, patio dining, and excellent food.within walking distance of the restaurant in downtown, most of which host live music on the weekend, excellent food, antebellum homes, and the delightful colorful people of Jefferson. As this was our first time in Jefferson and considering our experience, we will be returning. Thank you Tom and Stephanie.

Tom and Stephanie are very welcoming and really go above and beyond to help you enjoy your stay in Jefferson. The room (the Ruth Lester) was roomy and very cute. My 16 year old twins and I stayed in the double room. The courtyard patio in the garden was always cool and relaxing under the pecan tree. We were there on Monday and Tuesday night (worst days to enjoy Jefferson, Texas - as everything closes on those days), so there was no breakfast included, but they lowered the price to compensate which was fine. And they had coffee in the courtyard each morning for the guests. There was also a "convenience fridge" on the breezeway that anyone could get a soda or water from. They also had candy and snack food available in the parlor. "Home Fries" was in walking distance and had a great breakfast. Tom set up a personal tour of the nearby Caddo Lake/swamp with Go Devil tours which we thoroughly enjoyed...totally recommend it! We want to go back on a weekend when Jefferson is not shut down and would love to stay here again.

Carriage House is a lovely B&B in a beautiful historic town. But the best part of our stay was Stephanie, our hostess. She is a delightful and gracious hostess who strives to make travelers feel welcome and pampered. Other reviews have remarked on the virtues of this B&B, so I won't continue except to say you won't be sorry if you stay there.

We recently stayed at the Carriage House B & B in Jefferson, TX. Upon driving up, we knew that we had made the right choice. It is in the best location. It's in the downtown area, and we were able to walk to everything in Jefferson. The house and landscaping are just amazing. Stephanie, our host for the weekend, was so incredibly sweet and welcoming. Upon meeting her, I felt like I was talking to a friend that I had known for ages. My husband and I stayed in the Lady Bird Cottage. It was comfy, cozy, charming, and intimate. We immediately felt right at home. When we arrived, Stephanie had fresh brownies and bottled water waiting in our room for us. She gave us a tour of the grounds, suggestions for activites and restaurants, and showed us the location of everything around town. She even offered to make reservations for any restaurant or activity that we wanted to do. My husband and I opted to have breakfast brought to our room each morning. The breakfast and the coffee were AMAZING. We decided, on our first day there, that we would make this an annual trip (if not more frequent), and we would be staying with Stephanie at the Carriage House every time. You can really tell that she enjoys what she does. Also, don't forget to meet the two puppies. They are adorable and so very sweet.

My husband and I stayed two nights here. Our hostess, Stephanie, was very friendly and helpful. Her hospitality and great personality enhanced our stay. The breakfasts were delicious.
We will be making another trip in the future.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Allen Urquhart room. The room was nice with a Queen bed. Next time we would like...

From the moment we arrived on Friday afternoon, we felt welcome and knew our stay would be very relaxing. Tom was our Carriage House host that weekend. Throughout the weekend he was there if you needed him and very cheerful. Our room was the Diamond Bessie room in the Carriage House Cottage. Even though this room is advertised as pet friendly....I would never have known that a pet had been in that room. Very clean. The room was beautifully decorated with attention to every detail. The bed was comfy with very crisp sheets...loved it! Plenty of space in room for a couple.

After check-in we strolled around town. We visited the Jefferson General Store which had some fun items. We had lunch at the Bistro. Check out my review in the restaurant review section on this site. Afterwards, we stopped by Old Mill Antiques and Pat's. Pat's has decorative accessories for the home. I filled two bags on Saturday and another on Sunday. Wonderful shop.

Friday night we tried to have dinner at Riverport BBQ. They had already sold out at 6:30pm. So, we ventured down to Auntie Skinners for dinner on Saturday. See my review in the restaurant section.

We awoke Saturday morning to attend a scrumptious breakfast at the Carriage House. Then after a little shopping, we proceeded to our boat ride We had a 2pm reservation with the Graceful Ghost Steamboat Tours on Caddo Lake. We were unable to ride the Steamboat that day due to high winds. We were transferred to a pontoon boat. There were 12 people on the boat including Captain Byron. The ride lasted 2 hours. Very informative info about surrounding Jefferson area and lake. Fun time.

After the boat ride, we went to Riverport BBQ at 4pm. Just in time since the "Sold Out" sign was posted on the front door at 4:30. Meal was great. See review in restaurant section.
Late Saturday afternoon we spent time in the big white rockers on the Carriage House wrap around porch with our Blue Bell ice cream cone from the Jefferson General Store. Perfect ending to a great Saturday. Our room had an outside entrance onto the seating area with fire pit. We really enjoyed the fire pit on Saturday night. We were alone around the fire pit but it was very relaxing.

We missed the Carriage House breakfast on Sunday, as we had to travel back to Dallas. When we return, we will definitely stay at the Carriage House. It was a wonderful relaxing weekend.
