“Yes it's great”
Reviewed October 4, 2005

We recently stayed in this hotel as part of a Road Trip round the Southern United States and managed to get a room as a walk in. In fact we even got upgraded to the Sleigh Bed room which was awesome. The hotel is fabulous and your host a lovely lady. Jefferson is a great town but if it's after closing time and you can't find anyone try Auntie Skinners Club! It's a private members club but free to join - Beth very kindly took our details and allowed us to get a drink and some food. Huge portions! I loved Jefferson and the Excelsior House. This is a must do to come back.

we arrived on sunday stayed at the histroic execelisor house hotel
on austin st in jefferson city, went to the hamburger store cafe for lunch the burger's were excellent. we went sightseeing went on tours of some of the older histroic home they were fablous. Road the historic train ride, and the riverboat tour ride. had dinner at aunt stellies riverboat resturant and club have large steaks salid a great glass of white z* wine listed to great music. The town is so friendly went to the genera store purchased sourverons. The staff at the hotel we stayed was very friendly and the service was excellent. We stayed in General Grant's presidental suite in the historic wing. We had the getaway romantic pack, which included a canvas shopping bag with the hotel's name on it also before checking out they called the guest's in to breakfeat which was served on the sun porch, the back of the hotel, also has gardens of flowers and a fountain with a lilly's. tables and bench's to sat on. It is no smokeing in the hotel, but they let you smoke if front in the smoking area and behind the hotel in the smoking area around the garden. area. We also went to the histroic museum which the tour is 4.50, they have carriage rides that you can reserved at the jefferson hotel up the street that picks up there,

We enjoyed the trip would like to go back again sometime
and see the parts we missed and stay at the jefferson hotel next time

Would recommend this trip to anyone you'll have a great time.

We stayed one night at this hotel and loved it. Everyone was so friendly and we felt like family. The tour of the rooms was so much fun. We stayed in the Bessie Diamond room and the only complaint I have is that the heater unit in the sunroom is very noisy when it is running. The bed was comfortable although small as the beds were back then. The atmosphere of the hotel took you back in time. A great retreat and a wonderful breakfast the next morning in the sunroom. Ask for the getaway package. Lots of goodies come with it. Can't wait to go back and try another room. Definately recommend staying at the Excelsior!

A truly old, authentic ante bellum hotel. Fifteen rooms that were saved from demolition in the early 1960's by an industrious group of Garden Club Ladies. Jefferson is a historic treasure tucked away in the piney woods of East Texas, about 15 miles from Marshall, Tx. I'm sure there were ghosts in my room and throughout the hotel, but the management is not allowed to talk about them....takes away from the sophistocation of the place...at least that's what the ladies say... The great "Plantation Breakfast on the sun porch in the morning is worth the trip. Check out their web site ##################Karl & Lynn
