“Worth stopping by”
Reviewed July 28, 2012

If you are driving along I-45, it is worth a stop to see the Sam Houston Statue. There is a little visitor's center and a walkway down to the statue where you can gaze up at the massive likeness of this Texas hero. There is also a statue-size replica of his face on the short walk to the statue and you can get an idea of just how huge it is. And it makes for fun photos with the kids. For a free stop with the kids, its worth checking out, as the whole family will enjoy the visit.

“Very Grand Old Man”
Reviewed July 26, 2012

The statue is right off of highway 45 and easy to get to. There's a small museum with info about the building of the statue. Very impressive, but hard to see fully from right below.

“San Houston Statue”
Reviewed July 11, 2012

It is a very impressive statue and worth the side trip off of I45 to see. Be sure and spend some time in the visitors center as the docents are very knowledgeable and friendly.

If you have time be sure and ask them to play the video on the construction of the statue.

“A Tribute to Courage”
Reviewed July 5, 2012

The 67 foot statue can be seen from I-45 Northbound for 6.5 miles!! Great little place to learn about the man, Huntsville and take pictures. The docents in the visitors center are extremely friendly and helpful. There is a gift shop (with Blue Bell ice cream), picnic area, and restrooms. Really a great little stop on your travel path!! FYI--the frontage road is a two way road and the 45 north exit is in front of Huntville's Goree Unit. (7600 Highway 75 South) I-45 North, exit 109 -make a right. I-45 South, exit 112
