“Stay here for easy access to Texas Medical Center”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2014

I stayed here for two reasons. I am a Best western Rewards member and I needed a place close to the Texas Medical Center that provided free hot breakfast, van shuttle, and low price. I stayed for 45 days at the medical rate of $89.09 plus no taxes or fees. Enjoyed our stay!

We are so glad this Best Western offers medical rates for patients at MD Anderson Cancer Center. The expenses for travel are extensive so it's a blessing to get a very nice hotel at cheaper rates rather than staying at a cheaper hotel for affordable rates. Thank you Best Western. The amenities were very nice, the staff helpful, and the rooms were large and comfortable.

For the price that we paid through Cancers Joes House it was reasonable but still expensive. There is no Maintenance crew after 5 PM so if you have a problem you have to wait till next day. Breakfast is very poor. Shuttle service in the morning is great, in the afternoon it stinks.

I've stayed at several hotels in the Houston Medical Center area and the Best Western Plaza is the most convenient and overall is the best choice I've found. Their shuttle van service to the hospitals in the Medical Center is superb! Parking at the hotel is a bit cramped, but workable. It's the only hotel I use at the Medical Center.

This hotel has a lot of good things going for it. If you're visiting a nearby hospital, you can't get much closer. We walked the +/- 5 blocks to MD Anderson, but they have a free hospital shuttle if you prefer. The parking and hot breakfast were free. Breakfast was the usual hotel breakfast food: hot and cold cereals, fruit, yogurt, biscuits and cream gravy, sausage patties and links, a waffle machine to make your own, and eggs that looked like they were cooked in a round mold. The reception employees were helpful and friendly, even when there were problems, and the shuttle driver was pleasant and went out of his way to help people enter / exit the shuttle. They have an exercise room and a pool if you use those facilities.

Unfortunately, some of the rooms can seem old and dirty. We stayed the first night in a room that needed attention. The air conditioner spewed out air that smelled old, dirty, and possibly mildewy; you might know that old air conditioner smell. The mattress had a noticeable low spot on the side by the bedside table. Around 3 am, we couldn't stand the smell any longer and turned off the air conditioning. We preferred the heat over the stench. The next day, the reception lady graciously moved us to another room, and that one was excellent: great beds and clean smells!

The wifi can be difficult. It took both of us awhile before we could get it to work, and it was slow once we got in. When we checked out, I noticed that the rate we were charged was not the same as the price I was quoted. I returned to the reception, explained the problem, and the lady immediately reimbursed the difference plus tax to our credit card without any questions or hassles.

Overall, we would stay here again because it is so convenient to the hospitals, the employees were helpful and polite, and we liked the free parking and breakfast. This hotel was a good value.

Though clean and in great location for my needs, I found the lack of reliable WiFi service extremely annoying. Hotel staff admit their system is bad, but until they address with upgrade, don't plan to get any work done in your room on mobile device using "free WiFi".
