Houston Theater Overnight
Review of The Lancaster
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jul 10, 2019
Stayed there two nights to see a play at the Alley Theater. Could not have been more convenient, right across the street. New remodeling was superb, service was excellent, and the included morning breakfast in a library like setting was a welcome surprise. We dined in the hotel restaurant the first night, and had a very pleasant experience there. The staff from start to finish was extremely helpful and courteous. Be sure and reserve through the hotel web site, e.g. Expedia sneaks in from Google with not as good a deal, and no 15% refund on restaurant tab!

This was my first time in Houston. I couldn't have picked a better hotel to stay at with my son! We loved the room. It was very nice to stay in a historic hotel with such nice artwork everywhere. It's in great proximity to the MFAH, Aquarium, and the Museum of Natural Science. It was really nice to use the complimentary shuttle to these locations. The service was spectacular. Everyone had a smile and was very polite. I will definitely be staying at The Lancaster anytime I have to go to Houston.

We booked a block of rooms at The Lancaster for our out of town wedding guests. This hotel sits in the heart of the Houston Theater District. From our greeting at the door all the way to our room, the hotel is beautifully done and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. They recently opened after an extensive, tastefully appointee remodel. Fantastic property. We will definitely go back.

I came to Houston to help my son move to the city for his first job after graduating college. I was not familiar with downtown Houston but I picked the Lancaster based on location and reviews. It did not disappoint. The hotel had just been renovated and the rooms were very nice. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. I was surprised by the free breakfast. The choices were great! There was a waitress in the restaurant who went out of her way to be helpful. The first morning the coffee was not very hot so she brewed new coffee. Every morning she saw me she brought me extremely hot coffee from the kitchen! I told her I like it to burn my mouth! I asked her where the July 4th fireworks locations were and she printed me a list of locations around the city with activities! I was very impressed and will stay here again

Upon arrival we were greeted by staff. Our auto & luggage were taken care of immediately with smiling faces. Our journey to far parts of the city was so enjoyable with hotel transportation (the Hotel driver was Great). We really were impressed with all the staff including the bartenders ( who make a great Old Fashion, Bread pudding and fresh Decaf). Breakfast was truly an adventure. The Penthouse rooms are cozy with good views and staff surprised us with candy, wine, fruit and house slippers. You cant find a better place to spend the night and enjoy the Theater district in Houston.

The only Bad thing was we couldn't stay longer.

Thank you for the lovely review and thank you for choosing The Lancaster Hotel. We are thrilled that enjoyed our famous bread pudding and drinks at our restaurant Cultivated F+B. And of course the hotel courtesy car service is a favorite amenity among our guests. It was our pleasure to serve you!

The hubs went to University of Houston back in the day as a classical music major, so we travel to Houston often to attend the Ballet and Symphony. We used to always stay at Hotel Icon until we heard The Lancaster had undergone a complete renovation. The property is indeed beautiful. It is incredibly clean, modern, comfortable, and charming. Carrara marble, polished brass, crystal chandeliers, and stunning original artwork everywhere your eye rests. The place even *smells* luxe, like clean linens and history... no hotel disinfectant odor here. But the element that sets The Lancaster above the Icon (or any other hotel we have stayed in Houston, Dallas, or San Antonio) is the genuine caring attitude of the staff. The Valet guys are professional and nearly trip over each other to open your door. And this includes one stay when we departed during a downpour. The Valet half-carried me under his huge umbrella! The concierge and front desk staff make direct eye-contact; never staring at their screen and clacking the keys, nodding in your general direction... They really REALLY listen to every detail and remember you from stay to stay. The manager leaves a lovely little note in your room, on check-in, practically begging you to ask for anything at all, at any time. The housekeeping staff are remarkably friendly and seem able to anticipate your desire for extra hand-towels or candy bars, or slippers, or that mint next to your pillow <swoon>. Yes, they gift you with a pair of slippers... to go along with the delicious Bvlgari bath products! I am sure you have already read about the free breakfast of chef-created yogurt parfaits, pastries, fresh eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, oatmeal, granola, and every kind of fruit, juices, coffees and teas. And the in-room snacks, your usual minibar fare, but here it is entirely complimentary. Every day. I just have to return to their customer service one more time, though. When you leave the elevator, should you pause near the coffee shop for a latte to-go, or to get change, the restaurant staff greet you immediately to ask if there is anything they can help with -- restaurant-related or otherwise. Directions? Recommendations for entertainment? Transportation? Their eyes seem to beg: HOW CAN WE HELP YOU HAVE A GREAT DAY?!? Everyone EVERYONE is just so darned happy, professional, and committed to making YOU feel special. The final feature I must describe is the tiny, but captivating and delectable hotel restaurant and bar: Cultivated F+B. A blue-haired and fashionably-dressed mob descended on the place after the ballet, about 10 minutes before closing on our last night. I apologized for coming in so late, but both the manager and the hostess wouldn't hear of it. Once again, making eye-contact and smiling happily, they laughed and announced "it's never too late" and treated us like long-lost friends. It didn't occur to us until we were leaving, 90-minutes later, that they had been understaffed. As we finished the amazing desserts (and martinis) I happened to look around and noticed just 2 waiters had serviced all of the tables. You could not have known, judging by the care and personal attention that night. Honestly, I cannot imagine staying anywhere else in Houston now. We've stayed a second time recently and everything was just as smart. Down to that mint by the pillow.
