The worst mattresses I have ever experienced in a hotel this nice.... see the pictures. Beautiful hotel with a great location, excellent service, and great views... but what difference does that all make if the beds are less comfortable than the industrial carpet lined concrete floors. The second night we changed to a room with a king bed and a roll away which was slightly better. $17 self parking $26 valet per day plus very pricey typically unimpressive hotel food breakfasts. No coffee maker.

The JW Marriott presents itself as an "exclusive luxury hotel".
Sorry - but there was nothing remotely exclusive or luxury about this.
A decent hotel with good and very helpful staff (Concierge is worth 5 stars!) and shuttle that takes you to local restaurants for free..
Also - by american standards a good breakfast buffet and decent coffee.
But - a lobby shop á la motel with soft drinks, various medications e t c does not really feel luxury. Can live with that though.
Lobby was nice. Good bar. Good sitting.

But how can rooms that smell of horrible cleaning agents, with dirty looking wall-to-wall carpets, tiniest bathroom I've seen (you have to stand in the bathtub to shower) be called luxury?
It was an OK, altough a bit dated, business hotel.
Also - there is something called the "concierge lounge" on the 22nd floor. Stay away!
Self service breakfast, dirty tables full of previous guests leftovers and the same horrible cleaning agent smell and humid air as in the rooms.

Location and exterior is good. So a full restoration might do the trick.

Very nice hotel but more like a superior Marriott than a JW. The property is older but the rooms have been kept up well, the fitness room and pool were outstanding, the service I reviewed was outstanding and room service (while a small menu)  was superior. That being said, there is something missing here that separates a JW from a standard Marriott. I would definitely stay here again but it does not compare to some of the luxurious JWs I have frequented in the past.

Best hotel in the Houston area. I have spent over 20+ nights in this JW and it is excellent.

First off, the location could not be better. You are right across the street from the Galleria, so if you get bored at night...just take a stroll across the street (not to mention, the Galleria has an Apple store--connect with your inner geek!).

Secondly, the gym is AWESOME and they have a racquetball court (seriously, do you know many hotels with a racquetball court?). They have sufficient cardio equipment, a wide range of free weights, smith machine, etc. They have an outdoor pool and hot tub on the same level as the gym (I want to say the 6th or 7th floor, so you can look out over Houston). They also provide towels soaked in ice water, which is is awesome when you are burning up after throwing down some miles on the treadmill.

The rooms are super plush, with comfortable beds, HDTV, LCD TVs, etc. This place has all the amenities. The only downside is having to pay for parking (parking garage underneath the hotel-however, valet is available for those safety conscious females traveling solo) and internet (you do have to pay unless you are an elite level member with Marriott). Overall, an excellent hotel to satisfy your every need!

As a consultant I stay in various hotels up to 4 nights a week year round. Wherever I stay good internet access is critical as I work online or Facetime in the evenings. This is why my stay at the "premium" Marriott brand was incredibly frustrating. The $13 fee per 24 hours was steep but fine (company pays), but the connection was attrocious - very slow and spotty. In addition, they kill your connection exactly after 24 hours with no warning or grace period or any ability to simply pay for access for your entire stay. This resulted in my losing my connection during a critical business application download and during the middle of Facetiming with my young daughter at home. You then have to go through the same idiotic process to buy another 24 hours. Guests should not have to write down the minute you signed up for service and plan internet usage around when your connection will get cut. This is ridiculous.

The hotel/room itself is outdated (e.g. popcorn ceilings) but overall ok. Location is fine. I gave it 1 extra star for the above average gym. Also, when I checked in, the bellhop asked me if I was a premier guest or something like that. I responded no (I'm usually a Starwood/Hilton guy) at which point he ignored me. I would have declined if he asked to take my bags, but still very tacky given it was late and there was nobody there.

Stayed for one night. Very nice hotel, convenient to Galleria and restaurants in the area. Bed comfortable, nice flat screen, lounge chair in room, clean. Nice lobby, staff pleasant, check in easy and fast. Valet parking expensive, did self-park.
Disliked the fact that there was no free internet in room. Didn't dine at hotel but breakfast buffet looked adequate. Starbucks coffee available for purchase, no free coffee in lobby although newspapers free. Overall will probably stay here again, especially if room rate is good (we had a group rate).

Fairly average hotel - certainly not as exotic or special as other JW Marriott hotels. Rooms were not all that big and were a little old-fashioned in their decor. Beds were very comfortable, bathrooms were a little basic.
Breakfast buffet was pleasant - again nothing earth shattering.
Very handy for the Galleria mall opposite and the restaurants nearby
