“Wonderful Place”
Reviewed July 23, 2013

What a great place. Decorated with hundreds of pictures, photographs, flags and other items you could spend hours looking at it all plus massive Sam Houston statue in the front car park. Plenty parking too. Specialise in steak so I had the fillet which was simply the best steak I have ever had. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned and so tender. Wine was good too. This restaurant is not cheap but the quality of the food is superb. The owner came and chatted to us and gave us a history lesson! Service was first class. All in all just a great experience.

“Dining Delight”
Reviewed May 10, 2013

I have eaten lunch at the Steamboat House several times; wait staff and reception always friendly, courteous, prompt, and service-oriented. Food has never disappointed, and every "can you do this" has been met, often with chef feedback saying "good idea". While first appearance of dining room is cavernous, dining is very intimate...hard to explain how, but it is. Definitely worth experiencing.

“Great place to eat and look around”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

I ate in the Steamboat twice during my stay in Houston and would have been three times but they are closed on Sunday.

I found it by chance when driving past on the Sam Houston Parkway I noticed a large white statue. I came off the Parkway and found the Steamboat Steakhouse, the staue which must be 15 foot at least is of Sam Houston.

Once inside you see a fantastic array of Texan history, old pictures, paintings and artifacts adorn the walls. The server, immaculately dressed, came and asked if it was my first time here and I said it was, she then proceeded to give me some really interesting facts about the place and the two large murals on the wall of the dinning area. The surroundings are very nice and the service excellent.

The first time I chose the Victoria 14oz pork chop with a baked potato which I have to say was first class and both were cooked to perfection. The second time I had the Davy Crokett 10oz filet which melted in the mouth.

The service could not be faulted, nor could the food. You are encouraged to look around at all the Texan history on and around the walls. There is a private function room called the "log cabin" which allows for groups to be accommondated in their own special room that looked just like an old log cabin.

Would I recommend this place; absolutely. On another evening during my stay I went to one of the Salt Grass establishments and although the Steamboat was slightly more expensive ($5), the dining experience was light years apart.
