Interactive activities and museum. There are several good places (besides fastfood McD's) to eat nearby. Look accross the street (Nasa Rd.) too.

We took our 9 & 13 year old here and were extremely disappointed. It had a corny, commercialized feel to it from the moment you walk in the door, starting with the "Angry Birds" playground. One of the things we were looking forward to the most was the tram tour...which ended up being a huge letdown. There is a prerecorded info tape playing while on the tram but you can't understand anything it says even if every passenger on the tram is all quite as mice. The tour guides add absolutely nothing to the tour...they don't open their mouths except to tell you when to meet back so you don't get left behind. We were taken to 2 sites but neither were informative. One you look at behind glassed walls and the other you walk through. While the equipment is impressive, it would be nice to know a little about what you're looking at & the history behind it. We were expecting to get to see the mission control room as some of the reviews had suggested, but that was not part of our tram tour?!? The "shows" are a joke. The blurbs in the information pamphlets are the most interesting part of the shows. One guy was even reading from a paper posted up on a wall, I guess so he remembered all his lines. The food was extremely overpriced. The only part about the whole space center that made it worth the visit for us was the Starship Gallery Museum. The video was kind of neat to hear a bit about the past space missions and then afterwards you can walk through some of the memorabilia from past flights and touch a moonrock. I would definitely not pay full price for this. We got our tickets discounted to about half of what they normally charge. If you can get them for half price, you may find it to be a decent way to spend a few hours. Not what I was expecting at all :(

There is a lot to see and do here, especially if you have children. A lot of the exhibits in the main building (where you first enter) seemed to be geared towards kids. Make sure you take the tram tour. The regular tram tour is free and you get to take a ride through the NASA campus and see the mission control room that was used for the Apollo program. You also get to see a Saturn V rocket, which was for me the highlight of the tour.
I also bought my tickets off the internet from Space Center Houston and saved 50% though I don't know how long they are offering that deal.

We enjoyed our time at the Space Center. Be sure to reserve tickets online and print them out before arriving. This helps to bypass long lines on busy weekends/holidays. Because of the crowds, we probably spent less time on each exhibit as the throngs kept moving.

The tram tour was fun - a good amount of time riding to/from different parts of the campus, so you're exposed to the elements/weather.
