Hampton Inns are not a five-star chain, certainly, but I was so impressed by this specific one that I believe it deserves it. The lobby and my room were impeccably clean, and the room was quite large. All the furnishings were new, and the fixtures/vanity in the bathroom I could swear I had seen at a Sheraton I had recently stayed at. The Hampton bed is nearly equal in comfort to the Sheraton sweet sleeper, and this was no exception. The room was also laid out appropriately such that I could do work at the desk, sit on the couch, or lie in bed - all with an equally comfortably view of the television (a large flat-panel TV). For someone who travels a lot, this is actually a very nice touch - room design with functionality in mind. The Internet was free (as always with Hampton) and worked for me at a very high speed. All other amenities worked quite well. The breakfast spread in the morning was even larger than most Hampton breakfasts. All in all, a great stay, especially for the price, and I would recommend the place to anyone looking for a good mid-priced hotel near IAH.

hmmm...lots of continual airplane noise from the nearby airport, barely competent front desk staff, and glacially s...l...o...w internet access -- what's not to love?

This hotel is typical of the newer Hamptons with clean, comfortable rooms and the usual breakfast bar. Based on the rooms (we were in two rooms), cleanliness, room design, etc., I would normally have rated this with four stars. However, we had a couple of problems that you should be aware of if you are staying here. First, I had chosen this hotel because we had three sets of travelers arriving separately by air and by car, and we knew that a hotel shuttle would make transportation easier, especially for my 80-something mother-in-law. When I arrived at the airport, I called the hotel for pick up and was told that they would be right over. Thirty minutes later, I had still not been picked up, so I called again. I was told that one of the shuttles had gone to the Mall with other guests and that they couldn't find the keys to the other van. I was assured that the Mall shuttle would be back within a few minutes and they would come directly to the airport. They finally did arrive 25 minutes later. So I waited 55 minutes for the airport shuttle. Normally, I would have taken a cab but with my mother-in-law arriving shortly, I had decided to stay so that I could put her in a cab, too. Fortunately, the van got to her terminal at the same time that she arrived at the hotel shuttle area, so she went with me to the hotel. Then, when we arrived at the hotel which is only 5-7 minutes from the airport, we went to the desk to check in. I had made reservations more than a month in advance, and I had called rather than booking on the web to make sure that they could give us adjoining rooms. The desk clerk told me that they didn't have adjoining rooms and that, in fact, they were full and would have to put us at opposite ends of the hotel on the first and third floors. When I asked why that was the case when I had asked for adjoining rooms, she checked the file and sure enough, they had a notation that I requested adjoining rooms in the system. She went to the next room, assumedly to speak to a manager and I heard the manager tell her that a request for adjoining rooms had to be noted in the system. The desk clerk told the manager that it was noted in our reservation. The manager said something along the lines of "oh well, we're full." The clerk came back and told me that there was nothing they could do since the hotel was full. That said, the hotel was clean and in good shape and all of our other experiences in the hotel were positive. I suspect that this is a good hotel that just had a couple of lapses that affected us negatively. One other thing to note is that there are at least two Hamptons in the general vicinity of the airport. This one appears to be closest and is just off of the airport property, but the other Hampton is well advertised in the airport. So when calling for the shuttle, make sure you call the right hotel.

Our family stayed here for only 1 night. We flew in from Newark and had an early morning flight to Mexico. Hotel is 5 minutes away from the airport without traffic. There is a Hampton Inn shuttle (free) to/from the airport that runs 5am - 11pm. You just call the hotel for pick up. We came in after 11pm so had to take a cab (metered $10). When we arrived, we had to be buzzed in, I guess because it was late at night. Check in was less than 5 minutes.

Room was very clean. Good beds. Nice decor. Pictures on their website were very accurate. I booked with points, but I remember it would have been about $160 with AAA. Would have been worth it. Asked for an early wake up call and it was received on time.

Breakfast - typical Hampton Inn. Good coffee, cereals, muffins, fruit. Always good.

We had an early morning flight and needed to take the shuttle. It runs every half hour. On our morning, it ran exactly on the half hour. Took about 10 - 15 minutes door to door in morning rush hour traffic (and raining). We were the only family on the shuttle, the rest were all business people.

Overall, even though it was a very short overnight stay, I highly reccomend this Hampton Inn. Not sure what is near by. It seemed all the people we saw were on business. We picked this hotel because it was very close to the airport and we didn't want to waste time in traffic and/or miss our flight. Houston International Airport is VERY large. It makes Newark Airport look like a small regional airport. Leave plenty of time for looking for terminals and gates. We always try to stay at Hampton's if we can. Never have been disappointed.

This one is a winner.
