This 5 star hotel is alright. It is basically new and missing some character or charm to distinguish it. It feels like a Las Vegas casino inside on a miniature scale. The location is excellent within a short drive to galleria. The food in restaurant runs about $40 for breakfast for two. The ommlette are great as well as the bacon. The small dining room can be lonely and as I said it is missing some character. Not sure what it is, i'm not complaining because I live on a ranch but I know some of the more "distinguished" guests will pick up on it. We were in the bar on Friday afternoon and I never saw more that 2 people in there...so if felt lonely in the bar and restaurant. Quiet is good but it felt kinda stuffy in both places. They need to liveliness? The reception staff was okay.....everytime I went to the front desk to check in, out, directions, or whatever they were always on the phone with someone or doing something. They were never focused on the guest in front of them. The restaurant has waiters that are new and have no experience serving, I'm okay with everyone learning but both days that we are breakfast we had to ask for one thing or another constantly, sweet and low, toast, etc things that had been ordered beforehand. Overall the hotel is a good value, got a rate of $199 and others were checking in at $229 a night. The hotel will one day be a great resort but it has to learn from posts like this what to improve on so that they can grow up and compete with the other 5 star hotels in the city. You will not be dissapointed but you will notice little things they can do to improve the satisfaction...they are just learning what its like to be a 5 star hotel if I may put it that way. Oh yea, notice the freaky voice in the elevator when you close the door that it says going up......its weird.

This is a great hotel in a good location with good service. However both the room rate and the extras are quite overpriced compared to other hotels, paticularly the high self parking charge. For a business trip where you don't really need the various refinements you would be better off staying elsewhere for a lower price. However for a luxurious pleasure trip this is the place.

I meant to post this months ago. Have stayed in ZaZa, Four Seasons, Icon and others. The hotel and staff are by far the best. in Houston. Location to restaurants and shops make this a pedestian haven.

I moved to Houston in 2008 (from New York City) and I thought I had stayed in some nice hotels. Hotel Granduca is amazing with a taste of southern Texas hospitality.

We live in Houston and my boyfriend surprised me with a night at the Granduca for our anniversary. And they upgraded us to a suite since it was available. Nice touch.

FYI - for returning guests, this 5-star property will automatically upgrade you if a suite is available.

The hotel is a bit like the Venetian in Las Vegas (from a decoration and classy perspective) but has the warmth of a private home. It is gorgeous from top to bottom and the service is excellent.

If you come to Houston, you can't miss this gem which is part of the Leading Hotels of the World collection.

If you are not familiar with Houston, the location couldn't be better. It is across the street from the upscale Uptown Park shopping center. And while you are there, don't miss a trip to Crave Cupcakes, The Tasting Room (Wine Bar) or Uptown Sushi - three of the best in town across the street from the Granduca. It is also about 2 miles from the Galleria Shopping area.

If you are looking for privacy, class and top-notch rooms/amenities, then look no further. You may even see a celebrity since this hotel is a favorite.

First off let me preface this by saying that I travel often for business. Booking online via the website was easy, though one night stay required a full night's deposit. Two nights required no deposit. A little annoying, if only staying one night.
Despite that, I secured a great 2 week advance rate, nearly half the cost of a standard room.
Finding it via GPS was easy, and the location was superb, just a few blocks from the Westheimer entertainment area, and right across the street from an upscale shopping center. The Galleria is a mere blocks away. They provide a shuttle to the Galleria if you are interested. I did not use this, so I cannot comment on how the service was.

Check in was uneventful, though the desk attendent was not aware of the rewards program / frequent traveler program with The Leading Hotels of the World, who owns this hotel. Perhaps the aquisition is new? I called customer service after the trip and they added the stay to my account.
The staff was courteous, well dressed, asked questions and had answers for me to my questions. They provided a turn down service and extras when I requested. They offered to give me a tour of the property, even though they were busy preparing for a wedding that night.
Also, she almost charged me for parking, though valet / parking was part of my rate. Double check this and make sure you are not charged it it is included.
My room was not ready, as it was early, so they offered me a seat in the lounge and complimentary coffee / water / snack.

The room, a standard King suite, was FABULOUS! It was HUGE, with a full kitchen (mini fridge), and single pod coffee maker. The kitchen overlooked a dining area with seating for 4, and a living area with couch and chair, coffee table, end table, entertainment center and books to read, if I desired. Large flat panel tv completed the entertainment center.
The bedroom (yes- separate room) was complete with a King size, oh-so-plush bed covered in down comforter and about 15 pillows, and a dresser with another 32in flat panel tv. Off of the bedroom was a large bathroom, with oversized tub and separate walk in closet with drawers and full length mirror, robes and slippers in closet, plus writing desk and chair, completed the bedroom.

This hotel is far and beyond luxurious compared to the standard hotels in this price range and location. I was highly impressed with both the staff and the accommodations.
I will be staying here for all of my future Houston trips.

After reading the reviews about this hotel, we decided to stay here in August for a familiy reunion (late report).

We were really impressed by this classy hotel. It is in the business district close to all the shops and malls. There are several restaraunts nearby. The lobby is just gorgeous! We loved the pool and the spa. And the double room with ktichen was superbly appointed and very spacious. We were so amazed how much space there was. And the balcony outside was a nice perk. Even the kitchen has several cabinets, a large fridge, and granite countertops. The beds were heavenly, too!

As for the prevous remark about service, we never encountered any serious problems. Everyone was personable and attentive to our needs. Maybe the employee was a trainee?

We dined at the restaraunt one morning for breakfast. Make sure to order their orange zest pancakes - - yummy! Compliments to the chef! :) Also, in the mornings, go downstairs for their compliementary cofee, fruit and granola bars near the lobby.

We hope that we can take a trip back to Houston because we'll certainly stay here again!

The hotel is themed on a Tuscan villa despite being in the middle of a Houston business and shopping district - a little bizarre - but far more interesting than your average hotel in such areas. The rooms are large and comfortable with interesting and attractive free-standing furnishings. There is a very pleasant pool area and terrace.

The service is very hit and miss with some staff clearly undertrained. When staying in such a good hotel it is a little frustrating that the staff are unable to be attentive to the requirements of guests or even pour wine properly.

That said it is a minor fault and I shall certainly stay there again.
