Princessebird needs to drink before she goes next time. No, this is not an "intimate" tour like what you get normally at a vineyard but it does allow you to walk around for yourself and ask the brewmasters questions. If you do wan't a smaller tour just call them and arrange a small group of people to do a private tour or ask if there is a private tour that you can add yourself to already on the books. You can learn about all the different beers they brew and how they are made. If you are serious about getting a seat, you probably need to show up more than 30 minutes early. Also, you get 4 drink tokens to use for your samples but you can always find some people who don't want to use all of theirs; don't be shy to talk to people. The tour is currently in an odd location but they are soon doubling their capacity and will be opening an even better place to brew beer and have a great tour. Look for that in September.

My husband and I like to tour breweries and go to several a year. We read that St. Arnold has a tour every Saturday at 1pm for $5, first come, first served. We figured that it would be comparable to other tours we have been on: 20 to 50 people walking through the brewery with a tasting at the end. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case at all. We arrived at 12:30 to be sure we would get in for the tour. We were given a choice of a tasting glass or a $1 off coupon for a pint glass, and were given 4 drinking tokens. We made our way inside the warehouse, only to find that probably 200 people were there ahead of us and all of the seating was taken. We were astonished to find that people were bringing in pizzas and wings and all sorts of food items. So, we wound up standing in about 105 degree heat, but relieved that we made it in. Turns out we shouldn't have been worried...I don't think they turned anyone away. At 1pm, the "tour" started. The "tour" wound up being some woman talking for about half an hour about the brewing process, the history of St. Arnold's, and the current brews. By this point the place was ridiculously packed (I would guess 600 people) and I couldn't hear a thing the woman said. At 1:30 they finally turned on the taps. While they had three areas set up, there was no real direction on how to get to the taps, so there was a bit of a mad dash. My husband and I managed to get my taster and his pint filled. We drank it and then left to get out of the miserably crowded, hot, and sticky area. I think this *could* be fun, if you went in March and either got there at 12:15 to get a seat or at 1:15 just to get the beer. It is a really great deal for some tasty beer (4 pints for $9) and it looked as if some locals make a weekly tradition of it with their families and friends with lunch at St. Arnold's. I know this is run almost completely by volunteers, so I hate to give it a bad review, but I wish they had a cut off at a reasonable number of people. Also, they need to advertise this differently and NOT call this a tour. This is not a tour. This is a party, a social hour, a fete, but not a tour.

For a nominal charge ($5, I think) they give a tour which explains the their brewing process and a history of brewing. Their tours are at 1pm on Saturdays and have a growing number of devotees.

After the tour they will fill several taster glasses for you to sample. Usually there are at least 3 seasonal ales on tap plus some of the best root beer that I have ever tasted. St. Arnold souvenir t-shirts, caps, and beer glasses are on sale.

Tip: Bring a giant bag of pretzels and you will make many new friends.

Tip #2: Dress cool in the summer and warm in the winter because the overhead door stays open almost all the time. As with everywhere else in the city limits, the smoking area is outside.

I think you can stop by anytime and purchase t-shirts, etc.

This would be exceptionally interesting for home brewers...for which they are a big booster.
