“What a great place to see a show!”

We went to be a part of the taping of an Oprah show. The staff was so friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. The place is awesome!

“Beautiful building, excellent staff.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 22, 2012 via mobile

Recently went to the hobby center for the first time. Was very impressed with this facility. The ambiance is wonderful. Parking is easily accessible for the down town area. I was disappointed though with the extremely lax dress code. Several people in shorts and t shirts. Never have seen that in another theater.

“Lion King”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2012

Went to see the Lion King and first time in the building, it is actually a nice building outside but inside it is massive and impressive. The theater itself is really really good, it is big but also have an intimate feel and I have no idea how to explain that for something like the Lion King (if you have seen it) it was a perfect venue.

“Introduce friends and youngsters to stage plays”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 10, 2012

The schedule always includes a good variety of stage plays, including 2-3 for young people and 2-3 for adult friends who you might want to introduce to the wonderful world of stage plays. I also like that they do not do only the tried and true musicals. There is always a play I have not heard of or seen before.

Seating: Discounts are available for groups of 20. Put the word out through your church group, hobby group, and friends. You don't have to ride together; just purchase the tickets all at one time. Wheelchair locations are available.

The only bad seating is in the Boxes. Due to the architectural design, they are angled so you cannot comfortably view the stage. If you must get the Box seating, the ones highest up and farthest from the stage are the better view.

During the performance of the Lion King, there were several scenes where the performers were momentarily stationed at the upper levels to swing birds and butterflies on sticks overhead. Beautiful from below; it could have been aggravating to be behind them. If planning for what you know is a musical extravaganza, I would book my tickets via phone and ask those types of questions.

Restrooms: No waiting for the ladies. There is a long row of toilet stalls as you enter and a second double row behind that one.

Houston Theater District Open House -Each year (Sunday, August 26, 2012 from noon to 4pm.) the Houston Theater District hosts an open house. All the performance companies -actors, music, and dance- open their doors and give mini-performances for free, back stage tours, and offer discount ticket packages. It is a nice way for the family to sample symphony, jazz, opera, ballet, contemporary dance, and musicals; all for free.

Photos: No photos, including your cell phone camera, are allowed inside the theater's seating area, even prior to the performance or during intermission. Most performances have attractive banners set up in the lobby for the event you are seeing that make a nice photo or photo back drop.

Best intermission tip: Arrive early and order your drinks before the performance starts. It will give you more time to enjoy the intermission.
