The tram to medical center from downtown is a good way to avoid traffic. Buses are usually kept clean with the park n ride feature a great way to get downtown. Rode Metro for 10 years

The Metro Rail route runs from downtown, University of Houston Downtown, to past Reliant Stadium. Althoughthe ride is smooth, there are some drawbacks:
- the average speed is only 15MPH
- the rail runs part of its route on the same streets in the Medical Center that are used by vehicle traffic. Any car that stalls in the lane automatically causes the rail to stop with no alternate but to wait.
- there are quite a few homeless and other misfits on board who have no ticket to ride since there are no turn-stiles nor any ticket agents. There are just periodic checks by Metro, very infrequent.
- I feel very unsafe at the rail stations, regardless of the time of day.
- The rail is more of a trolley due to its low speed
- I do not recommend riding the rail, as I have seen numerous times a car is faster. It should be the other way around!

Houston's best kept secret! who knew, the Metro Buses where actually the best place to people watch! Heres a few things to remember... whatever you do, do not sit next to the people that have head phones on. You want this experience to be well worth the 75 cents you paid for the trip. make. it. count. Those people usually don't want to be there in the first place, you on the other hand do. Find the person that is either rocking back and forth in a drug induced state OR smells the most like crusty old cheese baking in the 100 degree weather for 5 days straight. Thats the person you want to talk to!! They usually have the most to say and are the most friendly!!
