Description: One of five children, Jim Goode was born and raised along the Texas Gulf Coast. His father was a shift worker at a nearby refinery and his mother spent her time taking care of things at home. Most weekends, you could find the whole family at the local area beaches where the kids spent their time fishing, crabbing and playing in the surf. Jim loves this way of life and he especially loves the food. So in an effort to combine his fondness for the roadside diners that dot the Texas and Louisiana coastline with his love for the region's seafood, Jim began to explore how he could translate his passions into a dining experience that would ultimately bear the family name. In 1986, he located a passenger train car that looked like it would fit the bill. He negotiated its purchase and moved it to its current location on Westpark. A few months later, Goode Company Seafood was born. The concept was to grill fresh seafood over mesquite, or fry it in refined oil with a thin batter. So, while you'll find signature dishes like campechanas, seafood gumbo and whole stuffed flounder on the menu, you won't find sauces or heavy layers of breading to mask the flavor of the fish. And if something isn't in season, you won't find it on the menu.

Really good service and lots of freebies! Walking distance from the Westin. Happy hour seems good value.

“Service first and great food!”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

This place reminds me of what dining should be like. I could go on about the great food or the super fantastic desserts, but the real star of this place is the staff, from the greeters all the way to the manger, Greg...you just could not ask for better service. Any questions, just ask! Bet your water never gets empty and your food comes exactly the way you want it. Oh, and love the propeller!

“Great food, lively location”
Reviewed June 10, 2013

Traveling alone - I ate at the bar, but this place was packed by 6pm with locals and business travelers. Great presentation, terrific food, good service. The main restaurant area was a little loud and probably hard to hear, but the bar area was great.

“Great southern American fare”
Reviewed May 31, 2013

As remarked by other reviewers, the seafood campechana starter, which is a variation on the Ceviche with somewhat more fresh spices in the mix, is fantastic and warmly recommended. The mains are mostly Gulf of Mexico type of fish such as red snapper, shrimp with Cajun influences. Creole and mesquite grilled dishes very good. Regrettably no scallops on the menu. Drinks also good, did not drink wine this time but the Margaritas were fine.

The restaurant is fairly sizeable, well decorated with a large ships propellor and a whole wooden boat, and has a busy atmosphere. Waiters were very attentive and fast. Parking is easy. There is also a takeaway section, this was very quiet whereas the main restaurant section was bustling with actvity. They do not take reservations for parties of two.

“Good food, great takeout service”
Reviewed May 18, 2013

We were staying at a nearby hotel and wanted some food to take back to our room for the evening. Having eaten at the Goode Company Seafood location before and liking it, we decided to try our luck using the curbside take out services.

It worked out great, exceeding our expectations. We pulled up in the designated area, were greeted in less than a minute by wait staff, presented with our well packaged food, reviewed to make sure it was exactly as ordered, and were on our way in less than 3 minutes!. And the food was just as good a that served inhouse, without the same nice presentation. It was still very warm after we made the 2 minute trip back to our nearby hotel.

I recommend the food and the service highly when take out is what is needed!
