“Great place before symphony or theater”
Reviewed May 19, 2009

We tried this restaurant because of it's convenience to Jones Symphony Hall and were very pleased. The atmosphere is very nice and the service was great. Food very good, too. We will return.

“Very Nice Chinese in Downtown Houston”
Reviewed April 17, 2009

We just got back from a very good dinner at Hunan. The restaurant has a nice casual atmosphere with stones am bamboo, and a very elegant "buddha bar" inside. The hot and sour soup was great and the pan fried pot stickers with the ginger sauce were excellent. For entrees we had The Return of the Phoenix (a sweet and spicy sesame chicken) and "Spicy Tangy Beef" which was a great spicy beef dish with vegetables. The service couldn't have been nicer - very efficient and friendly.

“Third time was NOT quite the charm.”
Reviewed July 23, 2007

While I will say that their Hot & Sour soup is one of the best that I've ever had, other problems made my lunch so uninviting that I won't return to Hunan Downtown.

First as lunch progressed the disco music played over the speakers seemed to get louder and louder. So loud in fact that we could hardly hear each other at a table for two. Then after delivering our order the waiter disappeared (until it was time to pay the bill). We finally had to flag down a bus boy and ask for refills on our drinks. But the real kicker came after we had paid our bill.

As my friend and I sat there trying to finish our drinks, the waiter kept coming over and reaching over us to grab items one by one off of the table. The pepper went first followed by the salt, then the soy sauce, then the sugar, etc. even though there were plenty of other tables that he could have been clearing. She and I both felt like he was trying to rush us out. So we left; never to return.
